Ok folks. Quickie here. I'm thinking about buying this on the cheap for Never Let Go. Thumbs up :D or thumbs down :evil:

Was actually playing this CD earlier. Worth having just to bypass those shite AVI pressings. 'Never Let Go' is a shoddy edit on this comp...don't know why they bothered to shorten it. Thumbs up for the marvelous 'Super Sporm' - a true mixers' delight (give it up for mixer, Rick Gianatos and drummer, Ed Gosa, for a tight and fierce session - sooooo funky).

LP version of 'Cocomotion' - I do prefer the 12, but hey...I love the track.

Ah - I see what you mean, Paul. I was referring to 'Disco 54 - The AVI Collection'.

I take it you have the (dreaded) Hot Productions AVI best of, which I've seen numerous times - but I always think it's a Record Shack compilation(!).


The one I have is taken from the masters, whereas very little on Hot ever seems to be. Sorry to bring that old chestnut up again...

Hey Graham. Like you, I too enjoy the music more when the dynamic integrity is maintained. What are some of you favorite cds?

You're obviously very strict on this, though it doesn't irk me unless it's particularly excessive. Do you judge by ear (even in mild cases) or do you analyse the waveform - or both?

I'm not that strict on it... honest. But the heavy limiting really affects "Caravan". It makes the reverb seem much louder that it should be, and the drum hits in the chorus have far less impact.

At first I thought it was a different mix, until I compared it side-by-side to the LP version (of which this is merely a re-edit of) and figured it out.
