    Disco Record Shops

If this hasn't been done already I would like to get nostalgic and ask other members where they used to buy their vinyl in the mid to late 1970's. Did anyone have a favourite shop and any special memories from visits there? I would particularly like responses of those with knowledge of London (UK) shops around this time.

THE place to get the hotest vinyl in London must have been Groove Records on Greek Street, SoHo. I think they compiled the "Import top 20" or something on Radio Luxemburg.
I went there 4 times a year (All the way from Sweden)during a couple of years just to get hold of the best and the latest. After a couple of visits they recognised me and they went to the back room and gave me a pile of Vinyl that was still warm from the pressing... How nice that was....

Paris also had a fantastic music scene and a lot of very well sorted record shops. They had all the French/Canadian music long before London and New York.

This forum keep bringing up memories ........

That granny sitting in that exact same spot every time one went there was one of the special things about The Groove Records. Reportedly she used to be a well known figure in London's jazz circles. - Not that the sounds were bad either. The Groove is where I got my 12" of Jimmy Sabater's To Be With You.

'Spin Inn' in Cross Street was always the best shop for imported disco here in Manchester.
