Just a point of view... I don't like anonymous posts.

If someone likes our board is pleased to sign in, but if he doesn't because he's not a disco lover, he must go elsewhere. Look at the Leanmean's post "What does disco?": someone replied throwing **** on disco. I would like to disable that one on the board and any other.

I've just read that short but distubing post by some narrow minded Steve Dahl wannabe and I'm disgusted. This is the first time I've seen such awful crap being posted on the board. All I can say is that the Anonymous should be disabled so we know who posts on the board. Otherwise more troublemakers will post rubbish like that on this board.

Hi Funky, I do not fully understand the meaning of your reply... Why Steve Dahl?

I think I stated, and Bernie agrees, that the "hard rock rules" post was meant to be facetious.

Steve Dahl was an idiot rock-shock-jock from Chicago in the late '70s. In league with then-White Sox Owner Bill Veeck, he sponsored a "Disco Demolition Night" at Comiskey Park in order to promote his station

WLUP(?) and to capitalize on the growing anti-disco backlash. The event turned into a drunken near-riot.

Veeck has since apologized for his part in the travesty, but Dahl remains a jackass to this day.

    Thanks, now I understand.

Nevertheless, joke or not, I didn't like that post. To me, hard rock is only NOISE!!

DISCO. The worlds best music lives on because everybody loves a dance classic. As it was once said "absolute power corrupts absolutely". Thats the media for you, controlled on ocassion by fools who have no clue about whats happening below them. It was once said that disco and hip hop were fads!!!! Its the easiest thing in the world to be negative........because positivity is too classy, too difficult.... too disco.

Most people who appreciate disco also appreciate other forms of music as its a universal language. It just so happens jealousy is a cocktail best served with ignorance! Whoever this guy is needs to see the bigger picture. Room for all.

    Disco is not dead, but...

Disco music is not dead, but is now more of a cult music. Disco was joyless and repetitive by 1979 and it burned out quickly after that. The disco riot at the ballpark symbolized it. Punk and New Wave are in the same mode today. That's just the way it is. I liked rock and disco back in the 1970s. This site is fun except when people take the whole 'disco' thing far too seriously. Let's all just relax.

Much of it was, BUT NOT ALL OF IT. Some of my all time favourite tracks are from '79 and a hell of a lot after.

Depends on what you mean by "far too seriously". Don't most fans of any type of music take it too seriously? Look at all the Doo Wop specials on PBS and the audience that attends them? Why don't these people just stay home and listen to the records? Because they absolutely ADORE the stuff!

Same goes for disco...I'll passionately discuss a disco song if it happens to be a favorite of mine: the beat, the strings, the vocals, the full instrumentation. If you think about it long enough, many of the great disco songs could be described as "symphonic orchestras with drum sets".

Yeah, record companies cranked out A LOT of disco crap in 1978 and 1979...but they also released some timeless disco masterpieces including, unfortunately, some that have been severely overlooked and that never received their just moment in the limelight.

    anonymous post

It is nice to see that people are so passionate about disco music, or any music genre, but just ignore people like the person who sent the anonymous post. They are just not worth it and only do it to get a reaction. I have loved disco and any dance music for years and I just let people like that speak and go away, but hopefully miles away!

    Joyless? Repetitive?
Speak for yourself(ves). Despite the knuckle scrapers animosity, disco was also peaking around 1979 :P
