I have a Shalamar cd called "The 12" Collection". It has many of the songs you mentioned plus "Uptown Festival", "Full of Fire", "Dead Giveaway" and a few others.
On wednesday, I've received a cd order called "SAM DISCO CLASSICS EXTENDED PLAY". Record Explosion has discontinued Sam's Records so I was lucky to find it on CDNOW.
Here's what I got:
1.Let's Lovedance Tonight - Gary's Gang 5:34
2.You Don't Like My Music - Kid 8:54
3.I Can't Stop - John Davis/Monster Orch 5:09
4.Let's Do It - Convertion 8:17
5.Ain't That Enough For You - John Davis 9:01
6.Keep On Dancin - Gary's Gang 7:43
7.This Beat Is Mine - Vicky D 5:53
8.Don't Let Go Of Me -Mike/Brenda Sutton6:45
9.Just How Sweet Is Your Love - Rhyze 6:09
My best are numbers 1,4,5,6, & 7.
I found a Shalimar cd at Record Explosion for under $10.00 and the hits are:
1.Second Time Around *
2.A Night To Remember
3.My Girl loves Me
4.Games
5.Right In The Socket *
6.Make That Move
7.Take That To The Bank *
8.Over & Over *
9.Sweeter As The Days Go By
Too bad that the song "I Owe You One" wasn't on here. I NEVER liked "For The Lover In You" so I don't miss it.
I'm also listening to:
Summer Of Sam Soundtrack
Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack
Cerrone (Love In C-Minor/Supernature)
Sylvester (I Need You/Dance Disco Heat)
Studio 54 Soundtrack
Gino Soccio (Remember/Dancer/Try It Out)
K.C & The Sunshine Band Greatest Hits

I have a Shalamar cd called "The 12" Collection". It has many of the songs you mentioned plus "Uptown Festival", "Full of Fire", "Dead Giveaway" and a few others.
I ordered that Sams cd from Amason 4 weeks ago, now that you mentioned it is discontinued I'm wondering if I 'll ever get it from them.
There are actually two SAM CD's. The first one is the one that Hustlebaby mentions. And the second one is called "Disco Classics Extended Play Volume 2" (Nervous Records 20481). This one contains:
1. Bourgie bourgie - John Davis and the Monster Orchestra 6:11
2. You can't stop - David McPherson 4:59
3. Feel alright - Komiko 6:04
4. Take it to the top - KID 6:01
5. Love magic - John Davis and the Monster Orchestra 7:40
6. Love either grows or goes - Scandal featuring Lee Genesis 6:12
7. Do your dance - Rhyze 4:46
8. Hold on - Kreamsicle 6:04
9. We'll make it - Mike and Brenda Sutton 4:07
And then there is another CD with SAM tracks called "Nervous does disco volume 1" which contains:
1. Wikka wrap - Evasions, The 8:48
2. Keep on dancing - Gary's Gang 7:39
3. Just a groove - Glen Adams Affair 6:21
4. I can't stop - John Davis & The Monster Orchestra 5:08
5. Don't stop - K.I.D. 7:14
6. Just how sweet is your love - Rhyze 6:58
7. Don't let go of me - Mike and Brenda Sutton 6:47

I was hesistant on Sam's Volume 2 because I didn't know any of the songs except for #1 & #5. I think the cd is about $15-16 dollars tax and shipping not included so I felt safer ordering the first one. But I'll check out the second one now.

CDNOW still have the Sam Records cd Volumes 1 & 2 available so you can order it from there. The total price including tax & shipping should be about $19 + change.

Thanks Hustle, I’m giving Amazon one more week , I ordered a few others like “give you body up 2 and 3 and “Salsoul classics” but I’m still waiting since 3/27, I often wonder why they list them if they don’t have them in stock, it just frustrate customers like me. Thanks for the tip.
Both the second SAM CD as well as the "Nervous does disco" are both excellent. SAM vol. 2 is a gem if only for the KID track. The same goes for the "Nervous" CD, for the long version of "Wikka Wrap".
SAM Vol. 2 is still sold through the Nervous website. They offer listening samples, too. Check out the URL in my previous answer.
With regards to out of stock at Amazon, sometimes I find that Amazon UK is better stocked in the disco/dance department than their US counterparts. I guess it must be a demand thing...

Here we go again with more moaning about CD quality:
I have both of these Sam CDs and the quality really sucks. On one of the John Davis songs (I can't remember which one since I don't play these CDs often) you can even hear the record SKIP!
I sent an e-mail to the label to complain, but never heard back from them, not surprisingly.
The John Davis cuts are the reason I bought these CDs (luckily I got both cheap), since there's never been a John Davis greatest hits CD released. Or has there? Let me know if you know otherwise.
Like so many peope who posted in the Costandinos/Romeo and Juliet forum, I prefer to listen to my John Davis RECORDS, rather than these inferior CDs.
\"...a once in a lifetime feeling that returns every week...\"

I've been listening to Sam's Vol #1 for over a week straight and I haven't heard one skip. This cd has a good sound quality compare to some other cds that had missing percussion or horns.
I've also bought a new cd today for an exchange of a botched video tape that I bought last week. Its called "Soul Hits of the 70's (Chaka Kahn on the cover)Volume #15. I think its a pretty good compilation for $12.99 here's what I got:
1.Once You Get Started - Rufus & Chaka Kahn
2.Supernatural Thing(Part 1) - Ben E.King
3.Cut The Cake - Average White Band
4.Bertha Butt Boogie(Part 1) - Jimmy Castor
5.Woman To Woman - Shirley Brown
6.Walking In Rhythm - The Blackbyrds
7.Lovin' You - Minnie Riperton
8.It Only Takes A Minute - Tavares
9.Get Down(Get On The Floor)-Joe Simon
10.Rockin' Chair - Gwen McCrae
11.Love Won't Let Me Wait - Major Harris
12.Let's Do It Again - The Staple Singers
The only song that is unfamiliar to me is #9 otherwise I'm enjoying it especially #1,6,8 & 10!
*DELIGHTFUL*
Hey Hustle... if you enjoy The Blackbyrds, have a look at this link:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...rniesdiscomusi
I bought this CD here in Japan the other day, and it contains the (reportedly) rare long versions of their hits. It is an import from the UK - and perhaps cheaper via Amazon.co.uk (?).
I bought it for "Walking In Rhythm" but learned two things along the way.
Number one: The Blackbyrds was a collective around Donald Byrd (hence the name). Number two: the song "Rock Creek Park" was an un-named song on one of my old cassette's and one of those songs that I had always liked but never managed to name. Puzzle solved!
And with regards to the SAM CD's - I know some people are really particular about their sound quality. And this is to the advantage of many (when they upgrade/restore old classics). I have to agree with Hustle though - I haven't heard the skipping either and enjoy these CD's very much.

one of my favorites Blackbirds is "Gut Level" this song was a huge club hit, "Walking in Rhythm" and "Rock creek park" were released on a UK 12" I just found out on Ebay last week. How long are this cuts on your Best of CD? Amason doesn't say.
Maarten,
The only song that I know of The Blackbyrds is "Walking In Rhythm". I asked my mother if she had the album years ago but she don't recall. This is the same Donald Byrd that made "Love Has Come Around" but I'm not sure if the background singers are the guys from The Blackbyrds.

I also made some new purchases.A real deal at a local flea market.I was rummaging around the record bins and came across. The following vinyl LP's all in excellent to near mint condition.

One man's junk is another man's riches.

The Blackbyrds compilation cd I have at home is better. The one I have also has Unfinished Business. That song along with Happy Music were huge in my neck of the woods.
Find them and destroy them!
I/ve got a 45 called Blackbyrd by Donald Byrd.Cica 1972 or 73.It was a club favourite back then and I wonder if the Blackbyrds took there name from this song.It was an instrumental in the Jazz/Funk fusion style.I'll have to dig it out and give it a listen. The Blackbyrds were one of my favourite groups back then.
