a little earlier than the dates you provide - but perhaps try "Must Bee The Music" - King Bee.

even if it's not the one - you'll dig it! it's a funky rap over Cheryl Lynn...

There's a house cover version from 1996 by LadyCop - To be real.

I don't think it actually contains a sample though.

Sorry didn't look at the year, Check Out the Got To Be Real released around 95-96ish. It was Cheryl Lynn but reworked by a couple of remixers as well. The label was Avex.
