    Jean Carn

Who can help me to clarify this:
I have been looking for the 12" version of "Was There All It Was" for a very long time. I found a few Promotional copies but i never bought them thinking that i want the original print.
When was this 12" officially issued? (or was it only printed as Promo?)

I agree that it's hard to find this 12". It was released domestically, at least in the U.S., in late 1979. I have a 12" on Philadelphia International Records--not a promo.

But I've searched for a second copy for YEARS-- to no avail.

This is one of the GREAT Morning Music 12" Records., A masterpiece--yet they never put the extended version of WTAIW on any of her CD compilations--just the vastly inferior short version.

This was definitely released in the UK during 1979. Maybe very late on in the year, but I recall my sister playing it to death. Not a bad thing for a track like that. It's nigh on impossible to find on 12". I do recall a few years back that the best of Jean Carne was released by Mastercuts I think. But if it's the 12 you want...Good hunting.

The extended version of "Was That All It Was" is available on the CD "Philadelphia Uncovered,". I have a 12-inch of it too, but I think it's a re-issue ("Let's Clean Up the Ghetto" is on the reverse).

    Good luck in your search.

The excellent 'Philadelphia Uncovered' compilation (Passion UK, 1999) is the only cd i know of with the 12" of 'Was That All It Was' and even then it included as a Bonus Track ! Its relative unavailability on cd is puzzling when you consider its classic status. Passion also issued a 12" single b/w'Don't Let It Go To Your Head'.

Going back to 1985, i recall CBS UK 'Club Classics' compilation featured the US Remix of 'Was That All...'

Yes that was a good compilation Pizzazz; I've got it somewhere; I seem to remember it had Dexter Wansell's brilliant 'Sweetest Pain' on there as well. :)

That sounds like a CBS compilation I have from about the mid '80s. It also has Webster Lewis' "Barbara Ann". :-?

I've come across two -- mine (in horrible shape, looks like it was used as a cutting board) and another which I found in Cosmos. They weren't cheap though -- I paid quite a bit for mine, and the other was at least $30 CAD, maybe higher. Unfortunately, Cosmos knows the value of what they sell.

The US 12" (promo or commercial or both ?) was backed with an extended version of 'What's On Your Mind', also from Jean's 'When I Find You Love' album. As for the UK 12, i believe it was issued in early 1980, am going to have to pull out the Record Mirror box over the weekend, possibly later...

in the meantime, the Philadelphia International 12" Disco Classics wish list starts here...

Jean Carn 'Was That All It Was' - US & UK 12" versions - we deserve it !!

Fabio - If you click on the actual link it is an auction for an original promo from 79. It finished yesterday but didn't meet the sellers reserve, so you may be able to buy it direct from him a little cheaper.
