Best From Artist 80 - Sugarhill Gang

Now, ya didn't think I was going ignore the rap performers didjya :)
Last weeks artist, Fatback, may have introduced rap to the world, but of course Sugarhill was the first to make it commercially successful.
Now, Rapper's Delight has to be up there as one of their best. My other choice, especially because it worked so well in the discos was 8th Wonder.
    Find them and destroy them!

    For me:

Rapper's Delight (nothing else they did came anywhere near as close to this, all time monster - funky -disco - party jam)
    Apache

    Then I'm struggling to remember.

Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five were much better IMO.

I always totally hated 'Rappers delight' but 'The Lover In You' from '82 was fabulous; it was produced & co-written by Pete Wingfield of Olympic Runners & Mel Brooks fame.

I'll go for the Roy Ayers-ish 'Passion Play', one of the cutest records ever.

Also, their version of James Simpson & Penetration's 'On The Money', only 'cause I love the original so much.

Apache still sounds good to me even after all these years.
As cheesy as it may sound today I also enjoyed the 1990 Ben Liebrand remix of Rappers Delight.
    There was life after disco!!

KBee: Once I got over the initial shock, I also like the Ben Liebrand remix of Rapper's Delight. It's different!!

Rappers Delight was the first and last rap song I liked. :)

The main reason I enjoyed it - spinning at a 'roller disco' at the time, it was 15 minutes long and I could go outside and take a break, have a smoke!

Bozo, lmfao .... the Saturday Night DJ at the club I attended did the same thing... only he played it twice... maybe that was why he was fired by the end of the year... along with the Friday night DJ .... then they hired me... go figure...
