    Who Is Monti Rock?

I was going through my collection making a tape for my niece of some of my rare things and found an un-played copy of "Keep Dancing Witht Monti Rock III".Don't ask me where I was when I got it but it is autographed by Monti Rock! Does anyone know about this album or its worth? I remember Disco Tex and the SEX O Letts performing in Charlotte N.C in 1987 I think thats when I got it.As always I appreciate any feedback!

Monty Rock was a colorful New York City DJ/Personality in the 70's, his club hit,"Get dancing" was fun to dance to at the time but many don't like it at all today, you can catch him on the Saturday Night Fever DVD , he's the DJ. I'm sure others here will add more details for you.

Hello William...Now there's an interesting autograph you have...Sir Monti Rock 111 (real name Joseph Montanez) a hairdresser from California was the lead voice of the disco studio group: Disco Tex & His Sex-O-Lettes!!! In other words, Sir Monti "was" Disco Tex himself. He was an "extremely" flamboyant performer and a lot of fun to watch! He had two "huge" dance records in late 1974 and early 1975. The first was Get Dancin' and the second was I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo (Doo Dat Dance).
Both of them were early disco dance classics. At dances, kids would make the old "soul train" line while dancing to:
I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo! Great fun!!! I remember when Sir Monti tore up the place on American Bandstand! Wearing this wild suit and hat and a huge boa around his neck, he danced and pranced himself right into the seats where the Bandstand kids used to sit and watch! Before long, the whole studio was in an uproar!! I think Dick Clark himself was taken quite back with his performance... And then of course were those wild and crazy back up ladies The Sex-O-Lettes all dressed up in "can can" outfits with HUGE feathers coming out from all directions from their hair!! Ahhh...Those were the days!!! Take Care...Mario

Monti Rock III also appeared quite often on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" when it was done in NYC--back in the late 1960's. He was a Puerto Rican hairdresser/comedian "freak" who seemed to amuse Johnny. The "Disco Tex" incarnation came later--circa 1974-75. Then "SNF". Then, oblivion.

Well, uh, .... maybe a return to hairdressing????

He was performing in Vegas a while back. At least that's what his web site claimed.

I remember 'Get Dancin'' being the main record that people used to do the bump to when it was a big hit in the UK. For 'I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo' the more adventurous tried a variant called the double-bump!
