Best From Artist 79 - Fatback Band

OK, I've gotta get this in first. Efunk, Marky, today (Sunday) was the kinda day that reminds us why we pay the big bucks to live here in So Cal. Mid 80s in March, 'nuff said :D
    Alright, back to the music.
To me, this band is one of thee most underrated. Their music in my opinion was avant-garde yet they seemed to remain outside the styles they helped create. Examples of this for me are (Are You Ready) Do the Bus Stop, King Tim III (Personality Jock), and I Found Lovin'. Oh, not coincidentally these 3 represent my best. 8)

The Fatback Band had a huge following in the UK and some sizeable hits.

(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop will always be my fave from them. It just evokes soooo many memories and good feelings.

Lover Undercover was another record that gives me a warm tingle along with I Found Lovin' to a slightly lesser degree.

Overall, I found their output to be a little patchy at times, but loved 'em for the records that did do the business on the dance floor (of which there were a fair few).

These days I find many of their records haven't time travelled too well and sound rather tired. Sad but true.

I really like "She's A Go Get Her" from the 1985 "So Delicious" album, but I've never met anyone who had even the slightest idea what I was talking about

    Other Favs:
I Found Lovin' (especially the 15 min live version)
    Bus Stop
    Spanish Hustle
    There was life after disco!!

Fatback - raw, basic...just sex, dancing, funk, fun - and precious little else. They knew what they were about and they stuck to it!

    '...Bust Stop' (natch)
    'Street Dance'
    'Fatbackin''
    'Goin' To See My Baby'
    'Backstrokin'' ('Goin' To..., part II)
    'Kool Whip'
...very underrated. Super-funky...and great 2-sax interplay towards the end. This tune is just out-of-order!
    'She's My Shining Star'
    'Is This The Future'
    'Girls On My Mind'
'I Found Lovin'' (even though I never want to hear it again)
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?

Fantastic!!! I know what you're on about. The tune before it, "Let's Play Tonight" is even better. Remember "Is This The Future."? I also have a best of compilation, which features a large pic of a woman's private area :o ...but her hand obscures all the good stuff.
How did they get away with these album covers? :-?

Ah, The Fatback Band. Memories galore.
My very personal list of faves:

Disco Bass - yes, yes, yes
King Tim III - my first rap record, bought in 1979
Love in perfect harmony - their most beautiful slowie
Double Dutch - almost played this one to death
    NYCNYUSA - very nice dancer
    The man with the band
    Yum Yum (gimme some)
    Wicki wacky
    Backstrokin´

Love them for their great rhythm section and some
earthy brand of funk until time killed most of it.
As Quinny mentioned, their albums haven´t dated too well.
    Oh well,...

IMO Raising Hell LP is one of the top 5 classic 70 funk LP's

As well as the mentioned stuff, I like "Concrete Jungle", "Boogie with Fatback", "Groovy kind of Day", "Keep on Steppin"

Like Bohannon, they just made too many lp's to be consistant. They seemed to turn out 2/3 per year at one point!

But, here is my 2 cents...

    - Spanish Hustle (original extended version) - AWESOME!! Definetely been sampled by many house music producers!! :P

    - Do the bus Stop. If you can't dance this one,,just listen to the lyrics

    - Yum Yum Gimme Sum (Does anyone out there have this album??? A hard one to come by!)

    - Not a big fan of "funk" but looooove "Backstrokin'"

Just when you thought it was all over - no, no, no

'Yum-Yum' LP is alright - has the great 'Let The Drums Speak'. Worth looking out for.
