Well, Paul, it's "Got To Be Real" with a little "Star Love" in the night as the backup choice.
Now I'll pick that often overlooked Diva, Miss Cheryl Lynn.
With all her great songs, my favorite is easily, Got To Be Real.
Find them and destroy them!

"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Oh, don't forget her wonderful "Instant Love" album produced by Luther Vandross!
In my opinion, "Got To Be Real" was one of those few hallowed records to genuinely make it to "classic" status. When I was living in inner London in the 80's, this record was absolutely massive - a real anthem. And it still is.
I would also like to add "Funky Sensation" and the gloriously soulful "Keep The Fires Burning" to the list.
If it moves - funk it!!
My No. 1 pick is "Star Love" (the version with the slow intro) with "Shake It Up Tonight" a close second.
"Got to be Real" is undeniably a classic, but I feel it has also become a disco cliche, like "I Will Survive." How many more compilations will these songs show up on?!!

Oops, Jazz Pilgrim,
I think you're confusing Gwen McCrae's hits with Cheryl Lynn's. Gwen did "Funky Sensation" & "Keep The Fires Burning".
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
"Got To Be Real" for sure.
My favorite is the 'b' side: 'Starlove'. Classic Disco with the 'slow' intro, then 'Disco Heaven' with a high engry song!! Great lyrics, music and tempo. The 'a' side 'Got To Be Real' was also a great song, funky and soulful. But for Disco, I would have to say her best is 'Starlove'. All the best, Phil
"Got to Be Real" has got to be it. In an era when "fast disco" was thriving, this little gem would always bring 'em back home.
I have to say a close second for me is "Keep It Hot". Another sleaze/morning piece with the right attitude (and the right title).
Oh, yeah --- Did Toto already have a hit or did her "Georgy Porgy" hook give them one?
The lady was awesome.

I think Cheryl has a fine voice and put out some great tunes. "Star Love" is wonderful. That slow spacey intro, and what I like about it is that prior to the music going disco it leaves you "hanging on" (so to speak) instead of using thumps as the cue. A nice move. The ending has an addicting hook. "Shake It Up Tonight" is another goodie. "Encore" is a great Cheryl 80's track that I remember hearing on the radio back in the day and seeing the video on "New York Hot Tracks" (Ch. 7), back when I lived in Queens and no one had cable TV.

Whoops!
I think the brain cells are not as good as they used to be!! I put it down to too many late nights! (or too much work??)
A "confused" Jazz Pilgrim
At least I didn't make a spelling mistake this time ....
If it moves - funk it!!
Got To Be Real and Star Love.
"GOT TO BE REAL" , "GOT TO BE REAL" and ....."GOT TO BE REAL".

My favorites are "Got To Be Real" and
"ENCORE"! Someone hit the nail on the head when they said that "Got To Be Real" is almost on every disco compilation out there.
*DISCO DELIGHT*
If "Got To Be Real" is a "Disco Cliche", then things can't be so bad after all. Better "Got To Be Real" than the usual "Night Fever" etc.
Just listen to the song and ENJOY!!

Among all "disco cliches" GOT TO BE REAL is the most pleaseant. You can play it hundred of times and the people will like it.
