My worst night ever (although I didn't realise it was at the time) was one night when some colleagues and I did a 'Riverboat Shuffle'.
Generally, these were a great hoot and w'ed previuosly done a number of really brilliant nights.
On this occasion, one of the punters was so drunk that she fell between the dock and the boat when it was time to re-board after an hour ashore. An ambulance had to be called, which held us up for quite a time and she had to spend the night in hospital on the Isle of Wight.
Now it gets interesting.
Her father worked for a local solicitor and so we found ourselves being sued for damages and out of pocket expenses. What made it worse was that she was under age (so our fault for selling a ticket to her, either directly or indirectly) and we hadn't thought to take out any insurance. The shipping company refused to pursue the claim on their public liability insurance and we didn't have the money to sue them for negligence. So we, the three organizers, ended up making an out of court settlement for something which wasn't really our fault, as such.
Needless to say, I was quite stoney broke for quite a while after that!!
Otherwise, we all got merry and had a great time.
