Paul, I like songs from their peak years '72-'79 & my highlights are:
Forever Mine
Back Stabbers
I Love Music
Use Ta Be My Girl
Livin' For The Weekend
Put Your Hands Together
Another late night, another "Best..." :D
Honestly, I had some minor issues with this group politically (don't worry Bernie, Nicky, I wont go there  ), but there's no ignoring gem after gem from these men.
I'll do a Nicky :D and go with 3 though I could easily go with a half dozen others. These songs are:
I Love Music
Used Ta Be My Girl
Give the People What They Want
Find them and destroy them!
Paul, I like songs from their peak years '72-'79 & my highlights are:
Forever Mine
Back Stabbers
I Love Music
Use Ta Be My Girl
Livin' For The Weekend
Put Your Hands Together
I'll go with:
Love Train
For The Love Of Money
Backstabbers
All three just bring back memories of a certain time and space. For The Love Of Money must get a special mention because it was soooo different to anything else. Still not quite sure why it was produced and arranged as it was, but I'm glad they did it.
I Love Music was their best though, for me.
'Love Train' is one of my favourite ever tracks.
'Sing A Happy Song'
'Darlin', Darlin', Baby'
'Put Our Heads Together'
'Use' Ta Be My Girl'
'I Love Muesli'
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Definately one of the hit machines for Gamble&Huff's Philly sound offerings of the 70's along with Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes. My favourites
Time To get Down
Back Stabbers
Love Train
I Love Music
Living For The Weekend
and the original version of
This Time Baby
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush
I'll pick
FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY 8)
LIVIN' FOR THE WEEKEND
BACKSTABBERS
and I love, I love, I love, I love... I LOVE MUSIC
Paul,
Didn't know these guys had raised any political hackles. Now I'm curious. PM me --- what's the 411?
I'll just Have to put "Put Our Heads Together" as my Favorite. That song is the best thing since grits!
Hell, I even liked the D-Mob hip-house version from 1989
Here are my favorite songs of theirs:
"For The Love Of Money"
"Backstabbers"
"Love Train"
"Used Ta Be My Girl"
"I Love Music"
I went through a period when I just turned 18 a couple of years back when I got drunk as often as possible. I have this K-Tel compilation that has "Message In Our Music" on it and I always used to dance to that. Then I discovered "I Love Music", "Put Our Heads Together" and the non-disco but still cool "We're All In This Thing Together". From what I have read The O'Jays, (thanks to Gamble and Huff) were quite strong voices in the Black movement, and I applaud their songs...funky, yet with a message (in their music...)
'Love Train' was one of the first records I bought as an 8 year old kid out on a shopping trip with my dear old mum (R.I.P.) in 1973 at an indoor market in North Staffordshire; just thought I'd share that quite uninteresting fact with u disco citizens!![]()
That track however isn't my favourite; I think after much consideration that it has to be 'Message In The Music' or 'Put Our Heads Together'.
Luv & hugs, Steely. x
...ya gotta beat the street......
Hi Paul :D
I wonder what those "minor issues" are :-? ??? See what ya done, now I'm curious like hell. Anyway I have many faves from the O'Jays so I'll make it kinda short:
(fast)
I Love Music
Livin' For The Weekend
(slow)
Family Reunion
Cry Together
Brandy
and "For The Love of Money" the best money song there is.
