Best From Artist 77 - The Ritchie Family

Named after their producer, these ladies had a hit that only within the last few years had I learned the name Brazil, not You've Got Me Where You Want Me. Thanks, it was one of you who enlightened me :D
I also liked their 80's hit I'll Do My Best.

Brazil..... Oh what memories of an ageing, eccentric French woman, who along with her fanciable 18 year old daughter, used to frequent the disco I worked when this record was out and about. She used to love that disc (much to the chagrin of the rest of the disco and myself at times). My boss, although 100% straight, was also more into these glitzy, campish records, so sometimes I'd have the two of them applying pressure.

The Best Disco In Town....simply for the fact that it was, for the briefest of moments, the punters' best record in town.

I knew you wouldn't let me down, K-Bee!

Though special mention has to go to 'Real Love' from 'All Night, All Right' and 'Brazil', which gets over-lush in places, but has some good bits. Can't say I've investigated many of their records.

Quiet Village - So damn sexy! 8)
Peanut Butter/Frenesi - These two songs just scream 'summer music'. I can do without Brazil --- too camp.
African Queens - Me behind the booth and a room full of my 'sisters' carrying on. :D

    Camp? oh brother... :(

My favorite Ritchie Family Song is:

Brazil :D Late last year... it was on my turntable or blairing in my car.

The Best Disco In Town doesn't sound to me like it once did, bummer.

    I like the breaks :P

"Lawrence of Arabia (More Than Yestarday, Less Than Tomorrow)" from 'Arabian Nights'.

"Theme Of Cleopatra" from 'African Queens'.

"American Generation" is a pure Abba song. An unexpected Ritchie Family's song, but it's good :P .

Quiet Village for a much needed injection of tropical lushness - it's very cold in my neck of the woods right now.
Also: The Lawrence of Arabia segment of the magical Arabian Nights Medley - for the delicious torture of treehugging stereotype friends who have subjected me to Joni Mitchell, Brahms and Bruce Springsteen.
    and:
The ultra rare long 6-minute version of Dance With Me -I'm not mentioning this to be elitist this track really is so superb

The 12" on 20th Century is indeed incredibly rare; it was a promo-only release back before the 12" single was really established.

However, the full 6-minute version (coupled with an edit, but still different from the LP mix) was released commercially in Canada on a 7" single. This one is relatively easy to find... in Canada, anyway.

"It's A Man's World/Where Are the Men?" medley - highly underated and yet the most sophisticated orchestration and production this side of the DS "Once Upon a Time" LP! The medley was used to open their club dates in the early Eighties.

"Put Your Feet to the Beat" - glorious Disco from the golden year, 1979.

"Give Me a Break" - one of the few redeeming qualities from "Can't Stop the Music"

"African Queens" and "The Best Disco in Town" - very catchy indeed.

"I'll Do My Best" - wonderful R&B/Disco from the early Eighties.

I always loved 'Ill Do My Best' & I also really like 'Alright On The Night' from the same '82 LP. (JFP & his gang were so clever).
I must admit that I agree with the people who mentioned 'Quiet Village'; I think this is my favourite of their 70s stuff; lush, lush, lush 8) ! (I always play this after Paradise Express's 'Poinciana' as they have a similar 'tropical' feel).

I also like "Liberty" from Life Is Music LP (1977), produced by the RF's founders Jacques Morali & Ritchie Rome :) .

    Hi Paul :D

It's about time you picked my girls - its funny that I was listening to them as I logged on so it was meant to be!

    Peanut Vendor
    Quiet Village
    Brazil
    Romantic Love
    Arabian Nights

I must add that I prefer the first RF than the second. The only song that I like from the second group is "American Generation".

Fans of the Family should seek out the Je Me Tiens Tu te Tiens Par La Barbichette soundtrack for two Morali penned Ritchie tracks La Barbichette and Forever Dancing. These are bombastic infectious fun things, richly orchestrated and unfairly not too well known anywhere.

I thought the best bit of 'Can't Stop The Music' was when the girls performed 'Give Me a Break' (that is the title isn't it & not 'Got My Education'?); kinda reminiscant of when the 3 Degrees perform in 'French Connection' don't u think?

Yes, "Give Me A Break" is the title of the song and the album. The short version is on the CSTM soundtrack, the long on the RF LP.

It's not often that I hear the words "best" and "Can't Stop The Music" in the same sentence, but I must agree that RF's inexplicable appearance was the only part of that movie that was even remotely enjoyable.
