The word evokes not just a type of music or a kind of dance or even a style of dress.It\'s also a new social order of black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, all hot, sweaty and, most likely, high, together.

    Re: the odyssey los angeles

WOW. I grew up at The Odyssey. What has happened to Scott Harvey, Chris Cox, Nick Bois Manager, Steve The Door Man/Accountant, and Nick Finley The Bouncer? Myself and Johnny Deakin lived with Louis Barazza on Croft Street and as
under-age-ers and partied every night at the Odyssey, it was a blast and in our time there were many Djs. After the closing we followed Nick to the Seven Seas where he worked for Eddie Nash, just wasn't the same club or location. Eddie & Nick got into a lot of trouble and Johnny and myself were there for much of it. It is wonderful you have a write up on this Club and those times. Saw many of the first New Wavers at the Odyssey along with Grace Jones and Elvira at certain Halloween parties they had. Scott Thorsen was another regular there too. Hope to see more of these posting and as I remember more, because I have forgot many things, I will write back.
    Thanks

Yeah!-This was my first "big" LA club-I was 17 and I remember
being in awe of the lights, the crowd. My first visit I heard Grace Jones "I need A Man" and "Disco Lucy"! But through
the years I was there for the TimeWarp,Bamalama, New Wave
nights, hip hop/C Bank era and then ...it burned down!
Steve Sutka at the old "5Am"site wrote some great things
about this legendary club-alot of us grew up here.I can hear
a song and remember a night at the Odyssey-who I was with,
what drugs I was on,etc Some that come to mind: "24 Hours A Day","Feel the Need","In the Bush" "Love Won't Be Denied"
    "Los Angeles" by X,....glorious memories!
