    any ideas on the song/artist?

it was from a dance track from the early 80s ny scene (underground, xenon, 54, 4D/visage, etc)

    thanks....

Mel Brooks did one called that. It's on one of those "Best Disco In Town" compilations. The rhythm track was from something by Sylvia on Sugar Hill, I think. Don't know if Mel stole from Sylvia or Syl stole from Mel--but I recognized it on Sylvia's Greatest Hits.

Chorus goes.. "Oh yes it's good to be the king , oooh-la-la"
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

    Is it any good?
Because i know a shop where they have the 12" in the 'Sales' section.
Doesn't Mel Brooks rap on that track? or was that another song?

It's a "novelty record". Not essential, in my opinion. Yes, Mel does "rap"; it's kinda funny once, but don't spend big bucks for it. As I mentioned, it's on one of those "Best Disco In Town" compilations, so get it that way, surrounded by lotsa other good tracks.

Hey Marky! It was Mel's version first (tying in with HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART 1, but not part of that film's soundtrack), then Sylvia wrote her version, which is about running Sugar Hill.

Mel's song was widely known in Argentina's discotheques around 1982. Referred to as "La Marsellesa" (the national French anthem) because it begins with that melody.
