Mr. Brown had a thing about recycling rhythms, so certain backing tracks would be re-used in succession, then issued with different vocals or raps over the top.

'Johnson Jumpin' was originally 'Willie Rap', by Woody Wood & The Wood Crew (as a rap). It was then 'Johnson Jumpin''(inst.), later re-mixed and reincarnated as 'Santa's Rap Party' (rap) by Super Jay. Following that, it was released without the rap as 'Super Jay Love Theme' (inst.). Why so many pieces of vinyl? Simple- to make airbody an' they mama buy 'em twice, all were pressed with their respective a-sides on both sides, regardless of what the label copy told ya.

Thanks for the info, Forrrce. It's more or less what I had thought, only never did I imagine that he'd have the audacity to recycle it 3 times!
I guessed if anyone knew, it would be you, being that you're such an avid collector of his labels.

BTW: That wouldn't be Woody's Rap, not Willie's Rap?

In which case I have all 4 versions on CD, so I've been suckered all over again. No wonder Mr. Brown thanks so many people in certain liner notes. Perhaps it was his (ex) criminal tendencies resurfacing. :lol:
