Extra Extra.... 70's Male Vocal track

I wonder if any of you could give me Artist and Title for a track I heard on an acetate that had no credits on it. It's a mid 70's sounding track with a strong male vocal. The lyrics are ;

Was that on a 7' or an LP track (the acetate version is a shade under 4 mins.) and am I gonna have much luck trackin it down?

It's on a 7 inch and it clocks at something like that 4 or 5 minutes ... i don't have it in front of me ... i do not know about an lp of Mr. Carter ... RU 8) FFENDED !

It's not Ralph carter!
Just listened to the 7' Tom Moulton mix I got on E-Bay (lucky I got outbid on the Promo 12"!) and it's a completely different track, quite nice though.
The one I'm after has a deeper vocal, a "rougher" sound to it and the lyrics I posted before.
Anymore ideas anyone?
