oops! too late, i missed it. :icon_sad:
Well, the main reason for not going was that i had nobody to go with. Anyway i was really convinced to go but i also had a lot of work to do and a lot to study, and this won. I regret it but i also think that i made the right decision. You know, i can't party every night!!!
I know he's soulful but i think the dj session had nothin to do with his "roller rinkk set", only deep house and techno (?¿?¿?¿?¿). I'm not a lot into house but i like some of it and i was really curious forhow his sessions are like. So mysterious guy!
Thank you
well, techno is what i read in some website. Deep House i don't know (I confess i have no F*** idea in any electronic music... too much disco music maybe hahahahaha)
Check his music here Kenny Dixon Jr – Music at Last.fm
and here Moodymann – Music at Last.fm
his music is cool! what genre do u think it is? i read somewhere is "Black Techno" too! i didn't there was a "black techno". And i don't know if he plays that in his current sets or what! so so mysterious.... now i'll never know it if i never have another chance to see him djing, cause i missed it.
I've just began to read a book called "Cultura y políticas de la música dance" (Culture and Policies of dance music) by Jeremy Gilbert & Ewan Pearson. It's supposed tobe about everything: Disco hiphop house techno drum'n'bass and garage. It was the only book about somethin similar in my neighbourhood library. I hope it will help to open a little bit my narrow mind and to be a little less ignorant about it.:icon_rolleyes:
Eva....
PLEASE read "Love saves the day"...and "Last night a DJ saved my life"...if your english is good enough...(it is)....
Techno....(and house) started as "black music" (no offence anybody, best way to put it) in Detroit and Chicago, respectively....Drum and Bass started that way too, "Jungle" (argueabley) was a kind of diss for how it was multi-racial....
I've hung out, and learned a lot, from old "house heads" in Chicago....The bouncer from the Warehouse gave me props for one of my sets:icon_biggrin:. Its funny what people call music now...every sub genre has a name....You'll hear good stories in the books I mentioned about the beginings of modern eletronic music, which all has disco roots. Then I can email you some of the personal stories I've heard from the people that were there....We missed out on good times:icon_razz::icon_razz:...

Yes yes!!! i wanna read them all!!! and also saturday night forever (and maybe JussiK will sign it for me if he comes back to Barcelona hehehehe:icon_mrgreen:). I got to buy them all by internet but for the moment it's cool i could find somethin about it in a library and in spanish!!!
Well the book i'm readin its more like a study of the culture and his characters, analizing his existance and comparing it with other documents. For example talking about SNF and the article by Nik Cohn about Vincent. Or also talkin about Disco dancing guides to learn the steps by a book, sayin it was the real reason that killed disco by trying to make it too abstract and simple that had nothin to do with the real disco dancing, because the books tryed to make disco near to any kind of people (the older one too) to have a bigger audience. According to this book disco died when was out of the alternative thing of goin to the disco at night by people who used to do it.
Anyway, it's gettin more and more interesting!!!! i wanna learn about house, techno, garage cultures, sometimes is "the kind of people" who listens to it that makes me recoil. Maybe i'll like it more when i'll know the connection with disco.
Well!!! about Roller Disco music:
A Lover's Holiday by Change of course!
"Let's disco down in a rollerskating ring in Alaska town"
Change - A Lover's Holiday LYRICS
Here's another great tune:
Keep On Rollin by Hokis Pokis. They sing all about roller skating. Same group that did Nowhere and Can't Wait For Love. Strange pressing I have - a 7" pressed at 33 rpm with small center and the running time is 7.20 on both sides! Very cheapy looking label, and came with a picture sleeve with a black and white drawing of a mouse in roller skates on the cover. Nice tune, but I hardly ever see it listed.
