I rollerskated to:
Let's All Chant - Michael Zager Band
Wow, roller disco!!!! Hadn't thought of that in ages!!! Believe it or not, I remember Peaches and Herb had a song out called: Roller Skatin' Mate...
Corn ball stuff by todays standards but boy did they play that over and over at our roller skating arena circa 1978!
Take Care...Mario![]()
Cher - "Hell on Wheels"
Martha Reeves - "Skating in the Streets"
How about "Roller Disco" or "Can you do it on skates" by Citi? :D
"Let's rollerskate" by Poussez
And how can we forget that monument of Seventies disco-flavored cinema: "Roller Boogie"! They even had a couple of Earth, Wind & Fire songs. 8)
I remember that movie dearly because at the time both rock and disco movies like "Tommy" or "SNF" (even "Fame"!) were exhibited for 18-and-olders only  . "Roller Boogie" took that admission limit to the 14-and-older level, thus letting me in. :D
Chic's "Good Times" was a major roller disco song. ("Climb on the half-shelf and roller skate, roller skate")
"Boogie Wonderland" by Earth, Wind & Fire featuring The Emotions was another one. It was even featured on one of those roller disco movies, either Roller Boogie or Skatetown U.S.A., but I can remember which. Hope this helps.

One of my dancefloor faves:
NEW ROLLER DISCO DIP by Action feat. Laura Lee Mann
on Disc-Trophy Records.
Could anybody throw a light regarding the release date and
who they were? Was this a one-off?
I´m a bit at a loss on this one.
I thought the line was "Clams on the half shell, and roller skates, roller skates"...Originally Written by DevP
Did anyone here go to what must have been the most luxurious roller rink in the universe, the phenomenal Roxy of New York? Oh how we rolled there in style, past Diana Ross, past couples having cocktails around tables decorated with spotlit red roses, around and around while "Love Sensation" and "Give Me The Night" filled the air. What an ambience. Everyone was relaxed and smiling and having the greatest time - I used to call friends - collect - from there around midnight when it was early morning in Europe and scream: Quess where I am, can you hear the beats!?!
You might be right Graham_Start. It's been many years since I've read the lyrics for "Good Times" and so I may have forgotten what is actually said. I look into it. Thanks.

You were right about the lyrics Graham_Start. I checked it out at a lyrics site. Thanks for the correction.
In quoting Sophia of the Golden Girls, [i]"My God, I have left brain cells up and down the eastern seaboard."

One of you older members, please tell me what was roller skating disco? I wasnt around then to see or do it. People surely didnt bring skates into the dance clubs, I would think. So the roller skating disco was for skating rinks I guess.
The first song that comes to mind for me in the roller disco's was Firecracker by Mass Production.
So So So Good!8)
To discorecordplayer: Actually it's both. It took place in rollerskating rinks and discos. And there were roller-dance contests.
Some movies about roller discos:
Roller Boogie
Xanadu
Bounce
Most of the favorites from the 70's and 80's that were the staples of the skating rinks in NJ (Twin City/Bergenfield/Skate 22) are still the favorites today (unfortunately sandwiched between current hits, of which most are not suited to keep the rhythm of the floor rolling.....)
believe me, I know....that's why most of the night I'm sitting as opposed to skating....lol
But some of the ones the old heads live for are
Let's get it Together - Pam Todd & Love Exchange
Rock it - Herbie Hancock
Love is the Message - MFSB
It Ain't no Big Thing - Donna McGhee
Love Thing - First Choice
Trans Europe Express/Numbers - Kraftwerk
Atmosphere Strut - Cloud One
Hit And Run/Love Sensation - Loleatta Holloway
It Should've Been You - Gwen Guthrie
Ain't no Mountain Hgh Enough/ Caught up in a One Night Love Affair - Inner Life
And the list goes on......

Campy, but a roller disco song anyway was the Dolly Dots’ "(They are) Rollerskating" from 1979 with which they brought the US rollerskating hype to The Netherlands.

if you click the image on the top you'll hear some funky music and read more about the roller skate competition!!! people in Detroit is so lucky to have this dj, you can see some videos of his roller rink sessions on youtube. He's called Kenny Dixon Junior aka Moodyman (and the real reason why i'm writin that is because i want you to recomend me to go or not to his session this Sunday in Barcelona. hahahaha he's a house dj very soulful but i'm not used to listen a lot of house, only play funk and disco on my stereo :p.That's why i need your help!thanx!).
Eva-
That's probably the first time I've heard someone say people that live in Detroit are lucky!lol....
But for real, unless its expensive.....you should go, whats to lose? I know the House thing. Ive never heard of this guy, but house djs from the midwest tend to be a lot more soulful than other places. Your very likely to hear some nice stuff with some classic disco tracks too. Plus on roller skates, about anything is fun!:icon_biggrin:
They all pretty much had a sound system and lights, probably the most noticable difference between a regular disco and a Roller "Skating Rink" Disco was the fact that they had on skatesYou had the light shows, the booming sounds, everyone had their flashy outfits on, (there was smoking and drinking....usually in the dark corners of the rink....
) and the object of the night was to impress a girl with your "moves" and, if not leave with her, at least get her phone number:icon_lol:
