I've been transferring a lot of old Philips N1700 longplay VCR cassettes for someone (The British members would be familiar with this format), which contained Aussie TV recordings dating from 1978 to 1981 and on the 1979 Channel 7 recordings I found two great Channel 7 station ident logos which used a fantastic orchestrated disco tune in them :D . Also on another 1979 recording there was two Channel 9 ident logos which had a funky synthesized rhythm in it which one ident was promoting "Mork & Mindy" and the other "Hawaii 5-0". And on another VCR tape I transferred a while back had a 1982 Channel 10 ident which used part of the song "MacArthur Park Suite" by Donna Summer. And also on the Channel 9 "Friday Night Movie" ident on a 1978 recording used Van McCoy's "Love Is The Answer".
Anyways I was wondering if during the 1970s American TV stations used disco themes for their station ident logos? I also ask the same question with station idents in other countries during the 70s? And are any of them fantastic funky disco rarity tunes which are only on the idents and never released on record?

Well, I remember woulda been probably around 1979/80. The local news in Philly at the time on KYW TV 3 (then an NBC station) had this comerical that was really freaky with Giorgio Moroder's "Chase" playing over it. It was also the local news theme too at the time. One thing i'll say, since I was very young at the time..the music and images on the screen that went with it scared the **** out of me LOL LOL. Remember having nightmares about one of the news casters trying to beat me up with headphones while the Moroder track was blasting out of somewhere    Then in the early 90s when the whole disco comeback came and I was experiencing the 8th Floor disco in Philly I found out what that scary song was and now...its one of my all time fave club tracks LOL LOL...so theres a nice little funny true story for all while still staying on topic.

Fun topic! I don't remember any station ID's using disco over here, but we had a sports show on danish national TV that used "reach Out" by George Duke as a theme song for over 10 years. Every citizen in my country know that song but have no idea who is
I thought that was so cool and it actually helped me getting in to the funky stuff back when I was a mere infant :D
