Mixing with cd's is ALOT easier than mixing w/ turntables... When I'm playing records I have to concentrate so much on just getting the songs matched. W/ my cd players (2 brand new denon s5000's) I can play two tracks perfectly matched while sampling a 3rd/4th track and scratching it all up at the same time!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love my vinyl. But there is just so much more creative things you can do w/ cd's now.

Puma: Are we talking new records on CD or oldies from the '70s and '80s that had variations a plenty in their tempo?

When playing old stuff I don't think it should always be mixed. I prefer to just cut into the next song, if the tempos are quite far appart. I don't see any point pitching a record right up or down just to get in time with the previous song for a few bars.

For cutting type mixing, CD's are far more precise

Are you speaking from a 'DJ' point of view? How would you control a dancefloor "mixing" in this manner? Curious because the technique you describe would have been considered quite annoying by hardcore clubbers over here.

Quinny, I'm talking any kind of music, if I want to mix old disco records over newer house, no problem... Just burn the records onto a cd and you're all set. Of course you have to still pitch bend to get them to stay matched, but it is alot easier w/ cd's now that the technology has evolved. The platter on the cd player operates exactly like a technics. I can scratch or whatever...
