Yikes... just yikes. 20 minutes of Disco Inferno? Sounds like a definition of hell to me...
Hello:
I was reading the interview that "http://www.djhistory.com" (Hey Bernie, hope that you don't mind. I have no commercial relation with this site  ) did with Tom Moulton in September 30th, 1998 and I found out that he (Tom) had a mix of Disco Inferno in an almost 20 minutes :o form. Did you know that??
Any comments for those who has listened and experienced this mix??
Cheers,
rhessel

I like Disco Inferno :D
Have since in came out in '76.
Disco Inferno is not one of my favorities disco songs, but I am curious about what kind of mix Tom Moulton have done.Originally Written by Graham_Start

He played me it while I was doing the interview mentioned above. From what I recall it had lots of vamps and extended instrumental passages in the last half, but it's a long time since I heard it, so I couldn't say for sure.
I agree with that. The long version on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack is a few minutes too long for me. And usually I like extended releases! I much prefer their "Love Epidemic" and "The Night the Lights Went Out".Originally Written by Graham_Start
I guess I'm fortunate that I still haven't heard their song "Hard Rock and Disco" which is supposed to be one of their worst.
I did send an email to Tom Moulton and received the following answer:
Hi Gerard, Atlantic will be releasing that orignal 19:00 minute version as a bonus track when they reissue the Trammps albums on CD. There should be several unreleased tracks on each CD. Ciao, Tom
anyone who sees this release ps email me at megawatti@gmail.com
Thanks a 1.000.000
Oldies and 12 inch remixes
ANY ATLANTIC EMPLOYEES on this forum ?????
When can we expect these releases please ?![]()
Oh man, I just wet myself when I heard about that (yes, I know, too much information). A 19 minute mix? Done back in the day, I expect. I would love to hear that.
I'd also like to know if there are any Atlantic employees on here. Actually, I think they would be WEA/Warner Bros music employees, since they own the Atlantic catalog, or is EMI the big boss now? I thought Disco Inferno was already re-released, along with That's Where The Happy People Go? Or was that on the collectibles label?
Any other Philly albums being put out? I can't wait for the unreleased stuff. Also, that single-only track 'It's Alright', which I think was the B side to Hooked For Life, needs to be put onto CD.
Disco Funk
By the way, cool interview. That 'Free Man' version, was that the 10 minute mix that Tom eventually released recently on 12"? It sounds like a rough mix, not polished like the final released version. The vocals are double tracked, which isn't the case (or as noticeable) on the original released version.
Also, it was interesting to see that 'You're The One' by Little Sister was supposed to be put onto Disco Trek. An awesome track in it's original mix. I think that Moulton remix did see the light of day eventually, but on Danny Krivits Grassroots CD. Awesome proto-disco.

I'd LOVE a 20+ minute version of "Where The Happy People Go", dropping the weird piano-strings-and-brass intro found on the LP version, and stressing and lengthening the "Boogie Boogie Boogie Boogaaaaaay" break.
Crazy powerful stuff there, by far their best track ever, as far as I'm concerned, and unjustly largely unknown by the general public...
...Boogie Boogie Boogie Boogaaaaaay.....
That would make a good 20 minute track, KoolChris. I'd also love a 20 minute version of Soul Searchin Time. That track has so many different things going on in its short 6 minutes, I'm sure they could have expanded it and kept it interesting.

What gives?
Anyone ever alluded to the addage "LESS IS MORE"?
"20 minutes of anything would be too much, even 10 in most cases.
I think dear ol' Tom must have lost the plot, when he put this 20 minute mix together. Did he do it when it was already well worn, or when it was getting hot? Even so, 20 minutes........WTFWHT?
