Grace Jones "Pull Up The Bumper" Remix

Downloaded a not too bad dubby, echoey remix of PUTTB today, clocking in at 6:10 today. Lots of effects and a very dramatic intro with synth work. Wanted to know who did it or if it is even official?

I quite like it, but Grace could snarl the Bible to me and I'd find it sadistic and captivating and "arty"

It sounds like it could be the 1985 or so remix. If I remember correctly it was remixed by Paul "Groucho" Smykle. It was released commercially on 12" by Island with the original long version of La vie en rose on the flip side. Around the same time there was out the remix of Love is the drug, same remixer. I'd say that cover art is what is good in these remixes, for they lost something vital when comparing to the original tracks.

Later Funkstardeluxe remixed PUTTB in 2000.

The Funkstar De Luxe version lasts 6:26 but is a 'modern' sounding remix (90's) with a soon-to-become annoying repetition of the chorus: alltogether no recommendation. Better stick with the original.

Deffo NOT the horrid Funkstar Deluxe remix which I knew from the bars back in 2000...yucky. This is probably the Groucho remix.

BTW, what was on Grace's Remasked & Remodeled (title?) collection from 1986/97?

Frontpage.... sorry to change the topic just a little...

I got a version off the internet... it is listed as PULL UP TO THE BUMPER UK REMIX I'm wondering if you have heard this version....

K-bee, DJ Jimmy M has heard this version approximately 7:00 long. It is mostly instrumental, cut up in places, but seriously a killer track.

It could well be the 1986 Pull Up To The Bumper (Remix) by Paul"Groucho"Smyrkle.I pulled out my vinyl 12" of this and it sounds it's much as you describe it.Begins with a Dub bass and synthy intro with reverb being added to Ms.Jones vocals. My copy is a 12" picture sleeve with a picture of Grace Jones in a boxing outfit holding her arms up in a muscle pose. The A side was the 9:12 Grace Jones Musclemix featuring Les "Mixdoctor" Adams of The Disco Mix Club U.K. it began with the Groucho mix and mixed into Slave To The Rythmn,Warm Leatherette.Private Life ,Walking In The Rain,Use Me and Love Is The Drug
The B side featured the full Paul"Groucho" Smyrkle remix which clocks in at 6:29.

And it is a legitimate offering through Island Records.

Oh, I had the german copy, there was no megamix...

As far as I know, there are two compilations from Grace. The 1985(or so) Island life, the they released those remixes discussed here. And the latest Island years/Compact point sessions 2 cd, which contains 12" mixes from the 80's lp's, not from Inside story or Bulletproof heart though.

The Island life collection contains some 70's hits, but if my memory serves right, only La vie en rose was in full lenght. And there were no tracks from Muse lp.

I believe both are available in amazons and in most record stores. I recommend the Island life compilation in its vinyl form becouse of the pics in the gatefold, the cd is just too small!

This is most likely "Peanut Butter" by Compass Point All Stars. It's actually the instrumental written by Sly Dunbar that Grace Jones wrote the lyrics to and voila! "Pull Up To The Bumper".

The version that Efunk talks about is a very strange one indeed. It clocks at 7:16 and grace jones only sings parts of the chorus but it seems to be in a different vocal register than the way she sung on the original.
I'm pretty sure this is not the Paul "Groucho" Smykle remix.
It lacks all the echo/delay effects that was his trademark.

It could very well be the disconet version Forrrce. The emphasis is definetely on beats 'n rhythm more than vocals. Seems like something Disconet would do although I not 100% sure that's actually the one.

You're probably right, but I do have it somewhere and like some 80% of tunes that I look for, I can't find it 'cause I can't organise my records properly...

I'm thinking that it's a disconet version, but I'm sure as time goes by somebody will step forward and say that they have it. :D ... this is definitely put on my want list. So i'll wait and wait 'til I get some label info.

OK - finally tracked down my Disconet copy. Click here for a 2-minute segment of the middle section - you'll know if it's the one, or not.

GRACE JONES - PULL UP TO THE BUMPER REMIX

    hi forrrrrce.

well ... this grace jones pull up to the bumper remix is the middle 1980 remix of the original. it shows her in this very well known boxer-outfit where she stands like a singer. that is the version with the strange intro ... pull up to the bumper ... the mix where she only sings a bit can be heard on the flipside of the most beautiful coverversion of WALKING IN THE RAIN together with a VERY strange version of peanut butter ...

    Hey, k pet...
I hope you're not implying I've sold efunk short! All but one of the few Disconets I have are simply re-edits or simple segues - some have effects added - you know the story.

No, I didn't think I'd solved the mystery, but you gotta look at all the possibilities!
