Like to share some info for those that didn't know; I didn't til the other day:
Dance Superstar - Gino Soccio
Outside LP Gino Soccio, of Quebec, emerged as one of the most prominent musician/producers on the Canadian dance scene in the late 1970's. The Canadian dance scene in 1979 was vibrant and included other prominent performers such as Bryan Adams (yes, that Bryan Adams) and France Joli. Gino's first album, Outside featured the Disco hit Dancer.
Discography
1979 - Outside
1980 - S-Beat
1981 - Closer
1982 - Face to Face
1984 - Remember
1995 - Best of Gino Soccio
Gino's sound was built primarily around keyboards and synthesizers. As Disco's popularity began to wane, Gino updated his sound into a type of Rock-Disco fusion on S-Beat. On Closer in 1981, he also began to include jazzier pieces and midtempo pop tunes.
In addition to his own albums, Gino also produced albums for a wide variety of Canadian musical performers. He worked under his own name and the name, Kebekelektrik. He has also written a number of songs for Grace Jones. Unfortuately, most of Gino's work is out of print, but a good compilation is available.
I've known for a while now that Gino Soccio was Kebekelektrik. It shocked me as well when I found out knowing that name before I knew of Gino. Turns out I knew only 1 Gino Soccio track under his name before I got into the internet which was "Dancer". I never knew of him. But, you learn alot over the net and can hear some old classic music that will be new to you(and I'm still learning). FYI: I thought "Dancer" was by either Cerrone or Sylvester when I was hearing it in the retro club I used to go to.
