Thanks to a good, patient and generous friend I have now been able to virtually complete my Barry White collection. Right now I am listening to "You're love's so good I can taste it" from the 1976 album "Is this watcha wont?"
What a simply beautiful piece of music, which is totally new to me. Starting off with a hauntingly slow but awesome instrumental song, than synching into a faster vocal... If you have this album, forgot about it, take it out, and play it. It is a masterpiece.
I have said it before, and so have many others... but was this man awesome, ahead of his time, indistructable, simply genius or WHAT?
I have just completed listening to the "Stone gon' " album. It has a really long version of "Never never gonna give ya up". The pleasure and fun they had recording it just oozes from the grooves. You can even hear it when, towards the end, you can hear Barry, or a crew member, laughing out loud.
I am SO grateful to know his music, to own his songs, to occassionally see one of the two concerts which I taped from TV (in mono  but still great) and to share my enthousiasm with whomever wants to listen.
Barry, I knew you are out there. For me... you will live on forever!
Respect!
PS Shall we try? Top three favorite songs by Barry White?
Here are mine (but only three is really hard):
(1) I'm gonna love you just a little more, baby
(2) Your sweetness is my weakness
(3) Never never gonna give ya up
OK... Top three Love Unlimited?
(1) Oh love, we finally made it
(2) High steppin', hip dressin' fellow
(3) Walking in the rain (with the one I love)
Oh, alright already, here we go with The Love Unlimited Orchestra:
(1) Brazilian love song (12")

Maarten, good to see you again.
My top 3 as of today :) is:
(1) Your sweetness is my weakness
(2) Your the first, the last, my everything (maybe not the exact title but you get the idea :D )
(3) Never never gonna give you up
Find them and destroy them!
I play this a lot. The instrumental intro just does it for me each and every time. I know someone else on the board mentioned this as one of their favorites in one of our discussions.Originally Written by maarten
This is why I bought the album BITD. I had purchased all his hit 45s for the 'a-side vocal/b-side instrumental' then realized the lps had it goin' on.I have just completed listening to the "Stone gon' " album. I'll ask again: WHAT IS THIS 'BREAK' that keeps getting mentioned on this site :-? ? Are you referring to the little instrumental passage where it's just guitar and drummer with strings faded down before they come back up in the end? Or, are you referring to the way it segues into "I'm Under the Influence of Love" on the Love Unlimited album? If not, then clue me in. What version is this? How long is it? All the 411, please. :DPS Shall we try? Top three favorite songs by Barry White?

Apparently, during the 90's there was a 3 minute version that was played on the radio (ktu) in heavy rotation that completely cheesed out the original 4 minute plus track. I have seen reissues of this version on cd and 45's.. The instrumental passage you just mentioned was deleted for happy pop radio and the 3 minute attention span of middle America. :evil:I'll ask again: WHAT IS THIS 'BREAK' that keeps getting mentioned on this site ? Barry White & Company... was a nice break from the mainstream music I was playing. He was definitely in a class by himself. It's always fun listening to each song for as I like to make compilations of different artists most of the time.
Hi maarten! :)
Right now my top BW three are:
-"What am I gonna do with you"
-"Just the way you are" (complete)
-"It's ecstasy when you lay down next to me"
I'll choose one of each by LU and LUO:
-"I'm so glad that I'm a woman" (LU)
-"Jamaican girl" (LUO)
Hello Everyone...I remember the Summer of 1975 when I used to listen to Casey Kasem's Top 40 show on Sunday afternoons. I was so "glued" to this radio show. I remember when "I'll Do For You Anything You Want Me To" debuted at #40. I was so happy to see Barry back on the charts. The following week I remember at the start of Casey's program and Casey said: "This may sound like the beginning of last week's show but for the second week in a row at #40 is Barry White with "I'll Do For You Anything You Want Me To." Despite it's low performance on the charts, this became one of my very favorite Barry White songs! Take Care
Omg Mario! :oOriginally Written by Mario
I used to listen to Casey's show faithfully I also remember it debuting at #40 and at #40 the next week... only for it to drop off the next week... I would have never known this song back then if it wasn't for the show...
That is exactly what I meant... the version with the full length "disappearance act" of the orchestra"Originally Written by discofrank

I just came across this Lp I've never seen, especially with Viola Wills doing vocals, anyone ever sampled this one?
Barry White - Boss
Although I do not know the album, it is one of his first attempts from the late sixties. At the time, Barry was contracted as the in-house writer/producer for Del-Fi records.
Although interesting as a historical document, the record is not really a reflection of his later works as his job at Del Fi was to write 60's style r&b hits.
