Best From Artist 72 - Loleatta Holloway

    OK, let's back to business.
I want to begin this year with that other disco diva. Among her hits my favorite is HIT AND RUN. It's a obvious disco classic that will definitely get you working up a sweat.
    Find them and destroy them!

I absolutely love Loleatta! Besides the ballads I could name anything, I'm not a ballad person, but I just mention the, perhaps not so dancable, Dance wacha wanna. Love the energy in it! But of course all her classics are honey to my ears :D Such good extended/remixed versions too!!

Without a doubt, Ride On Time.

I don't usually appreciate anything that blatantly rips an old disco song (in this case, "Love Sensation"), but damn, this was fantastic!

I didn't matter that the lyrics, divorced from the original song, made no sense. It didn't matter that the lyric was actually "Right on time". This was one of the very, very few songs that captured the joy, the thrill, and the fun of disco. Nothing has come close since.

In addition to the titles already mentioned, let me add several other faves:

"The Greatest Performance Of My Life"
    "That's What You Said"
"I've Been Loving You Too Long"
(her cover of the Otis Redding classic on "Love Sensation" is the real deal).

And let's not forget her inimitable vocal contribution to Dan Hartman's Vertigo/Relight My Fire"

So, so true. This was a killer track that everyone was into. They knew Loleatta was being ripped off and didn't care. The energy in the song took you back to those 'big club' days.

    My faves:

Hit 'n Run: Rossiello and I wore this out! Sleaze with waaay too much energy. :D

Love Sensation: As much as I liked the original I really got into Shep Pettibone's remix. Just made it a little more fun for me.

Runaway: She added that little 'something' to this Salsoul piece. A somewhat restrained delivery from her which was nice to hear.

Vertigo/Relight My Fire: In the same way Cheryl Lynn owned "Georgy Porgy", Loleatta stormed in and took over Dan Hartman's masterpiece. I remember the first night I played this. "Vertigo" caught their attention as one damn fierce intro and Dan Hartman had by now become recognizable because of Instant Replay. But, when Loleatta's voice came in it was like God had touched the dance floor. There was so much power in that first sentence the entire fucking bar just screamed while the dance floor was all raised hands and stomping feet. The 'holy ghost' had entered. :D

"Oh, got to be strong enough to walk on through the night. YEAH!"

    'Casanova'
    'Cry To Me'
'I May Not Be There When You Want Me (But I'm Right On Time)'
    'Hit & Run'
    'Love Sensation'
(I heard this for the first time in '83/'84. The first minute of Pettibone's remix is just the ultimate in the way it builds up a full head of steam)
'Catch Me On The Rebound' (wobbly-string-tastic)

    Hi Paul :P

    I see that you're starting off with a BANG :D !!!!!!!!!!
Well my best from Loleatta are:

    Hit & Run
    Love Sensation

I think NickNack puts it best when he describes her voice in "Relight My Fire". Its a small part but powerful as hell - that is a song that opens & close beautifully. Yeah you'll get the holy ghost alright, it can also wake up the dead :P !
