    DONNA SUMMER LIVE 1979!!

I was going through some of my stored away stuff and I found an old 8-track tape I purchased years and years ago from Goodwill. It is a 50 minute cartridge that someone used to record a live broadcast from Y-100 (South florida) of Donna Summer live at Sunrise Theater. The quality is alright (its an 8track ok..)

The beginning of the live broadcast begins with an interview. I have included a link to it here. If anyone knows anything about this recording or further info, I would love to hear about it!

yes i downloaded it. Dispite the poor quality. I did like it from what i heard. I just which the quality would be better. What kind of station was Y-100? My guess would be disco format? Afterall, I really hear any live recording from a radio station from 1979. Thanks for putting this one up hear.

Nice flash from the past, thanks DiscoFrank, shame the 8Track ran out! Interesting to hear the interview especially the DJ's remark about 'What ever happens to Disco" in the future...

Y100 still is around, they were a popular local top 40 station, (not necessarily disco) that played whatever was popular at the time. In those years a few stations did many Simulcast of concerts and club gigs, unfortunately I never recorded any.

Y-100 was pretty much always a top 40 Station .. Donna Summer just happened to fit their format at the time. From what I hear DISCO 96 was the Hot Disco station for south Florida. Disco 96 later became Power 96. I also wish the person had a longer 8-track cartridge to record the rest of the concert. Would of loved to hear the rest of "Hot Stuff".. I also loved the way she does "Once upon a time" here as opposed to her "Live and More" lp.. "Dim all the lights" is interesting to hear live.

Just when you thought it was all over - no, no, no

I especially enjoyed the strings on "Dim All the Lights", which were regrettably omitted for the studio versions. Thanks for posting this rare treasure!

I also have been enjoying this 1979 Donna Summer concert from the Sunrise Theater in Florida. It has great variety - "Fairytale High" is nice and the sound effects are still there, the live version of "I Feel Love" is interesting, and the violins in "Dim All the Lights" from the Peter Graves Orchestra bring an interesting new dimension to the song (but in this case I don't think "Dim All the Lights" really needed the violins - the released version was great as is). "Love to Love You Baby" is leisurely and very slow. And she sings a slow song I haven't heard from her before, as well as her cover of "Memories". So it's a good mix of dance and ballads with the perfect mix of electronic wizardry and live musicianship. I agree about how the interview at the start is great, too - the host's comment about how someone can like rock and disco at the same time is very spot-on!
