WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!!
Interesting question, I am as well searching for some artists from that era, but sadly I can`t help!
But I am sure somebody will be able to help!
greetings!

Hi everyone (first post!) I am an avid collector of Disco music, having been hooked by a friend; since that day I have been building my collection from record shops or (my favourite) scouring charity shops for some gems! I am currently renovating my 'Disco Room' as I call it - well actually it's the spare room to most folk! Can anybody recommend some good Disco related artwork? My wifes a cracking artist and I want her to paint me a belter for the wall. Does anybody have any ideas, or even know of a source where I could buy posters/prints?

ps thanks for this great site

Type in Disco Art on Google and search in the Images section should give you some ideas.
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush
gengi,
posters.com
might have one of saturday night fever :D
old billboard magazines from the late 70's had some inserts of artists being promoted with their latest single... in full color! also, welcome to the board.
Cheers for the advice guys!
Saturday Night Fever, aye that'll be right! :D The only poster I could find was some cartoon called Disco Cats (repeated on about 36,000 sites!), no way on that front. I saw some pictures done by Keith Haring in the notes of the Paradise Garage/ Larry Levan album , that adorned the walls of the club. It was more artwork from within clubs, or looseley based on that, that I fancied. The search goes on then, you've given me a good idea with the billboard mags, and maybe album covers too, might get those blown up - I may just give her a bottle of wine, a paint brush and carte blanche and see how we get on! :D Ta very much.
Here is what I would do. First replace the glass of wine with some Tequila  Then get a picture of the Satruday night fever poster and the Thank God It's Friday poster. Have her draw the dance floor (lights) leading up to the DJ booth on TGIF. I always loved that booth with the hands holding the bowl. All I could think of.
For inspriation you may want to visit this site's Disco Records Vault, which features cover art and label scans to hundreds of records.
Oh, if you follow MixMasterMax's suggestion to use Tequila then expect a Daliesque melting dancefloor-very cool indeed!

The first Bionic Boogie LP is the ultimate example of disco artwork IMHO. :D
It's not too expensive to have images blown up to poster size and beyond so do consider that first Bionic Boogie sleeve and check out the following for throbbing colors and sheer fabulousness:
LIGHTNING by Lightning - obviously inspired by Helmut Newton with 2 girls speeding along on rollerskates in a neon lit milieu, with rayguns in hand
The I NEED IT album by Johnny Guitar Watson - for fun un-pc-ness as well as for cool design sense
POUSSEZ! by Poussez - perhaps the best example of disco glamour ever printed
YOU MUST BE LOVE by Love & Kisses - not that good an album when compared to other Costandinoses but the hi fashion imagery is excellent
GRACE JONES - the 2nd album Fame and the Warm Leatherette one
DIAMONDS FOR BREAKFAST by Amanda Lear - by Pierre & Gilles!
DISCO - a Butterfly label comp showing female and male feet doing the hustle or something - the hues of the colors are saturated to perfection
MUNICH MACHINE - the 1st album
before hanging these on your wall - only one wall with large images, that's the rule! - paint them gleaming white late 70's minimalist loft style, suspend 3 transparent Eero Aarnio Globe chairs from the ceiling, add lots of white lightning, a mirror ball (large) and casually throw issues of Interview magazine around the floor. Turn the music up and only let VIPs in.
If your looking for a great art cover , consider the lp of STICKY FINGERS 1978 , pink on fuschia colors very nice and chromatic ,also very trendy at the moment according good decoration magazines pink and fuschia's are HOT girls love those colors
For sure i would consider a lot this one i even want to do it for myself make it very large...RU 8) GREAT ARTWORK
Don't forget to listen to that album pure bliss !
''Dreamin' about those disco lights''
**Dreamin\' about those disco lights**
Careful with those pink and fuchsia and purple shades now - while Philippe Starck has employed maximalist color schemes in a couple of new restaurant projects strong tones like that tend to overwhelm and lead to tiresome overkill. After some 45 minutes your blood pressure soars and you begin to need fresh air. A neomodernist clean solution accentuates toned body shapes and skin shades. Performances look and feel better and mostly white surroundings allow every carefully thought out fine detail to stand out. :-) That Sticky fingers sleeve is a must, though.
Hey guys, don't forget Frankie Crocker's orchestra album cover with those lights on the sides... There's a shot in the Disco Vault of this site... Weren't these guys cheap! :P
