What 45 do you wish there was a longer 12" mix of?

Some of those 7" can have quite cramp arrangments and I sometimes wish there was a nice long stretched out long mix of -

    CATCH "MR NICE GUY"
    AL MASON "GOOD LOVIN"
DIFFERENT BAG "LETS PUT IT TOGETHER"

Was a 12" version of "The Real Thing" by the Brothers Johnson ever produced? I've looked but can't find one. A song that good deserved a 12". 3.48 is way too short.

There are US promo and UK issues of 'The Real Thing', but both are only of the original length. A major disappointment for such an excellent track.

I agree it is a shame "The Real Thing" is only the LP version on 12"

It's another super-value 12" - clocking in at 4:08 in length, which I think is even shorter than the D.E.T.T. 7"!
Topside is a ballad, called 'We Should Be Together'.

The most frustrating song to not have a longer version is Do It Any Way You Wanna by the Peoples Choice only clocking in at 3:15  what were they thinking!!! :(

Yes, but no. It's only on a Polydor compilation from the '70s, mixed in with other tracks, and it's not a true extended mix but a re-edit.

1978 - Meco - Fantasy (Wizard Of Oz B Side only 2 mins and some)

1978 - Joe Harnell - Theme From The Incredible Hulk (only 3:31)

1977 - Giorgio - From Here To Eternity/Utopia (There needed to be an extended 12'' mix of the remix on the 7'' which is only a bit over 3 mins)

1979 - Sassy - Lonely Dancer (Only 3 mins..dont know if it actualy exsits on an LP in longer format..but maybe..this isn't Ray Martinez Sassy either)

    E-Funk,

The EXPANDED version of Tom Moulton's remixes of "Philadelphia Classics", released in 2002, contains one bonus track:

    9. Do It Any Way You Wanna[*] performed by People's Choice - 5:35

    AMG says:
The CD reissue includes liner notes by Tom Moulton, which confusingly refer to the People's Choice's "Do It Any Way You Wanna" extended mix as having been issued, although according to the track listing it was previously unreleased. — Richie Unterberger

    ------------------------
Check it out. You can easily find this as a promo or used--at least in LA, I can.

thanks Marky for replying... I guess i'll have to check it out. this will be hard to find in the stores. where I live, they don't stock much disco other than the disco years series. :-? I'm wondering if the original LP had this longer version.

Efunk, no unfortunatly the LP doesnt. It's just the regular 3 min one..as most of the tracks on the LP are all very short in length.

Tom Moulton should have moulded WOW by Andre Gagnon into something truly spectacular with long furious bongo breaks. Maybe he should even have added a girl chorus to whisper the title word a few times. Would have been a killer - not that the original 3 minute version is not a hot thing to trot to.

I'd love to hear that also as I love "Wow" as well. More of the same can be found with...

    Studio 88 - Misirlou

    Scarlett Rivera - Scarlett Fever

These should be right up your alley.

Funnily enough, the 45 version of Alton McClain & Destiny's 'It Must Be Love' has extra orchestration that I really went for - but this (original?) mix was never on 12", or the LP. There must be an unedited version of it somewhere...

Really! Now I have to look for this. I'll take anything that adds just a little bit more to this song. Am I right that it's probably not longer than the lp version just a different edit/mix?

Nick, I have the 45 version also.... the string arrangements are louder :) and more defined than the LP version.

Scarlett Rivera - that name rings a bell. Who is this person, was she a cabaret singer, a movie starlet or something like that? Another one to seek out that record - the hunt never ever ends!

There was Canadian Special FX 12" of "Do it Any way you wanna" from the early 80's which clocks in at 7 mins. Is this likely to be what Disconet have put out? I think it is just an edit, but it is still a decent longer 12" pressing of the song.

Short LP cuts I would have liked to see on extended 12"

    Cameo "The Sound Table"
    Players Association "Hustlin"
    Norman Connors "Stella"
Earth Wind and Fire "September" (I know it is on 12" but only the LP version)
    Leather is the way forward!

What 45 do you wish there was a longer 12" mix of?
Well, it ain't exactly 45s that come to mind, but I sure would have liked a beautiful extended remix of these two tracks:

Wanda Walden / Don't you want my lovin' (release on 12" is the same as the album version)
Active Force / Keep in Rockin' (this great track should have also been available as a 12" extended release)
