Who did those disco mix bootlegs?

We all remember anonymous 12"s like "Bits & Pieces III: Let's do it" (later ripped off by Stars on 45) or that one that read "French Trench Records: Sportswear for the flasher". I remember a great website citing most songs contained on these and other similar bootlegs.
The question is: who were behind these mix masterpieces? The actual records showed no clue, but I'm sure there was word spread around. Or maybe some disco investigator discovered who were these DJs?
Any bit of info will be welcome.

One of the best of that genre, "The Big Apple Mix" was done by Mikey D'Merola of NYC.
