Spring 1973 at the Night Gallery in Worcester, Ma.
Sunday night about 11:00; guy sitting on a chair across from the bar, sweetheart sitting on his lap, he's got one hand up her dress and the other hand down her dress!
I fugured something BIG was about to happen and it did. Didn't take her long to get steamed up beyond all control!
She turns around in his lap, facing all of us, who were watching them in total amazement, and slides the ol' meat missile home under her dress :o She proceeds to ride the ol' baloney pony to very loud and exhuberant org*sm to the wild cheers of all of us in their audience :D

    I was fucking amazed!
Steve Rubell and Studio 54 didn't have a monopoly on antics such as these :D

This doesn't compare to discoman's story, but here it goes.

One night at The Saint my best friend was in the middle of a spin when he saw the mirrored ball fall and hit the platform that held the star projector. I wasn't there that night, but heard it from him. The following weekend the back bar shelf was "decorated" with pieces of the ball. Luckily it landed where it did and not on somebody.

    Bizarre nightclub/disco

Kinky Gerlinky in the early 90's.
At the end of the night the Pleased Wimmin (3 lovely drag gals) would body-surf the full length of the semi-empty dance floor. There was the usual broken glass and drug paraphanelia lurking with a good mix of broken stiletto-heels and discarded wigs. It was funny but I did used to worry for the little ladies and their Habits.
There was also a night at said club when Leigh Bowerey went as 'Little-Bo-Drag-Sheep' His foot-wear was basically a pair of rockin' horses. Bless Him. He looked great but couldn't move so spent the whole night rockin' in the one spot!

I've told quite a few already in my 16 months here, so I'll go with one I don't think I've told yet. Not the most outrageous story, but it should bring a chuckle or two, so persevere. All this first hand experience for nowt, eh?

Imagine a disco in 1973. They weren't exactly palaces then, so everything that follows should bear that in mind.

It was a Sunday night. I was the official jock that evening but quite often one or both of the other 2 jocks would come along and do an impromtu set. This particular Sunday, a whole bunch of us (DJs, owners, punters) were feeling kinda zonked, 'cos we'd been on the beach all day with very little sleep between Saturday night and then.
Sunday nights used to be real fun 'cos we'd normally get a very party, very musical crowd, many of whom lived local to the club, so many would get really high, knowing they could walk home. On this particular night I was having a whale of a time. Everybody was dancing and really enjoying the laid back vibes. One of the other jocks was there and as was his want he started messing around with some of the regulars. All of a sudden, he was running around the place, chased by the local lads with soda syphons in hand or whatever else came to be handy. The DJ guy was jumping from the balcony overlooking the stage (yes it could be done....just {he was a lanky so in so}) and generally causing mayhem. Imagine, everyone (including two strangers in dark suits {overdressed or what}) was witnessing an escalating series of events that were getting more and more bizarre.
The two strangers must have thought they'd come to a madhouse or something, but the best was yet to come. Eventually the DJ was stripped down to his Y fronts. Determined to wreek revenge on the miscrients who'd stripped him, he raided the kitchen and emerged with two 1 kilo bags of flour. He proceeded to chase the local guys through the club. They scampered upstairs and he threw the two bags of flour at them just as they were going up the stairs. Who do you think was standing underneath the stairs at the time? Yep, you've guessed it, the two guys in dark suits, trying to have a quiet drink. Only when they left, soon afterwards, their suits were not dark in colour but distinctly white!!!!! They were ruined.

We were told a few days later that these guys were from the brewery that owned the site and they were there to pick up tips on how to run a successful club/disco, as the brewery were about to start a few discos and sink a fair amount of dosh into the project. The club closed about six months later.

    LMAO :D

If I may be so bold, you Brits know how to raise hell too :D
When I went to Monaco for the Grand Prix in '76 8 Brits who were staying at my hotel (Balmoral) invited me to hang with them: "This is Roger our Yank friend you know"!
I'm lucky I survived. Watched the race totally gassed from all weekend.

I'll remember them always. My hat's off to the UK :D

    Bizarre nightclub/disco incidents

Talking about bizarre things happening in nightclubs/discos...I was once in a nightclub called ADN, with a friend of mine, and the DJ who was playing that night played over a Thievery Corporation track some of acapella of Maria Callas!!! It sounded really weird...We left that nightclub, and went to one that was close, called Conventual.Well, as usual in that place , the music was really bad...eurodance,kizomba ( we call it the eurodance version of Afro-Beat...), the odd pop and rock track that are played to death in my town...we even heard heard a very bad cover version of Cheryl Lynn´s Got To Be Real in Kizomba style, and the birthday song played also in a kizomba rhythm...The DJ of that place changed so much styles and tempos in a short period of time that night, that we were thinking he was on cocaine or something...The patrons of that place looked like something out of a whore house...There was a girl who was dancing and there was this guy that was starting to being rude with her...then suddenly her mother appears and slap the guy´s face...me and my friend were now very drunk and laughing a lot.We ended the night at that nightclub dancing only the two of us to Groove Armada´s I See You Baby (the best tune of the whole night...).We literally closed the place...We then went to my friend´s place, and before entering his place,we saw three dogs "loving" each other...What a surreal night...

Your stories have made me laugh a lot   Thanks!

Well I didn't live on the Disco era but in my not so long clubbing experience there's one night I'll never forget. This happened like 3-4 years ago at a club I was with my friends. It was like 1 AM and everyone was dancing to Played Alive - Safri Duo when suddenly the lights went on and the music stopped. Everyone was surprised and like what the hell is happening  Suddenly the police made its entrance to the club and went to the bar and picked up all of the drinks and bottles. Geez I felt like I was in one of the final scenes from 54 the movie (btw Studio 54 didn't close in Dec. 1979 but in 1980, I have a magazine with pics from the last night, it's from Oct. 1980). The police ordered everyone to leave the club and I remember we were all booing them.

BTW Discoman did ya go to Jimmy'z? What was it like inside? Is it true it's within the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo?

In '93 I was the Resident DJ at CLUB INFINITY in Melbourne ,Australia and on one particulear night we had a full house ,the place was jumping, and anyone who knows me ,knows I love my music loud, and about 1.20 am (club stared at 11pm ) I blew the fucken speakers,20,000 dollars worth!!
All you could hear was this light tinny sound ,the funny thing is the moniter speaker was still going ,a few people came up to the console and started dancing.
As you can imagine there was managers were running around all over the place like chooks without heads ,trying to fix the problem ,but there was nothing I could do ,I COOKED THE SPEAKERS.
    2,000
people filed out quicker than spit through a trumpet it was chaos,an UNBELIEVABLE experience !!
I'll never forget it,even the people that were there.
I still kept my job but the club did close down 6 months later.

The DJ blowin' the fuckin' speakers!!!!!!!!!!!
    LMFAO :D

    That's one of the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!
**** I remember goin' to Discos where you could actually FEEL the music in your body I mean DEEP in your body and no one ever blew the speakers!!!!!!!!!
    Waytogo!!!!!!!!

I was in Jimmy'z for a bit on the Saturday night I was there
(with my Brit friends). The ultimate Disco! The place was packed. The people looked fabulous.

It is in the Sporting Club, fairly large, tremendous flashing lights, don't remember much about the music except that the DJ was playing Barry White ("What Am I Gonna Do With You" is what I remember). Barry White was THE rage with many of the Brits in Monaco that summer. Donna Summer gave a concert in Jimmy'z during the summer of '78. What a place to see her!!!!!!!!!!
If I had been there at the time I could have died a happy man!

    Voyage where are you located?
I thought our cops could be assholes

Thanks a lot for the information DiscoMan. No I don't live in the US.

Yeah Jimmy'z is awesome! Every year after the GP thye have this dinner in the Sporting Club, at Le Salle De Les Etoiles where the winners are congratulated. Afterwards I've read that everyone goes to party at Jimmy'z. I don't know if they did that back in the 70s.

I didn't know Donna was there in 78. I do know Cher was there in 1979 or 1980. Diana Ross gave a concert in Monaco like 3 years ago. In 2002 Gloria Gaynor was honored in the World Music Awards, and in the past: Diana Ross, Barry White, among others...

Ooops sorry if I went very out of topic here lol

BTW how exactly did the speakers got cooked?

The '76 Victory Dinner was held at the outdoor restaurant on the roof of the Hotel de Paris (my memory). Niki Lauda won the race that year. I had a fantastic time there in 1976 and Disco just added a little more to my entire experience. It was all the rage in Europe that summer. :D

Lot of funny and bizarre stories.Mine would have to be the night we had a real dry ice fog machine installed at the club. The older DJ's would remember the type.A 45 gallon steel drum with a heater element in it to heat the water up to near boiling. There was a steel basket suspended in it that you put the dry ice in and lowered via a crank into the hot water which would create that nice low to the floor fog that would give you that dancing on a cloud look.

It was installed next to the DJ booth which was above the service bar area in the club. Now nobody including myself had ever operated one of these and were simply told to put the dry ice in the bucket and lower it into the water when we wanted to create fog.Well they asked me to get the dry ice from a local supplier for that first night which happened to be a Friday and the club was packed with about 400 people. The supplier asks me if I wanted pellets or blocks saying that the block lasts longer so I said OK.He supplied me with a 30lb block which I brought to the club.

So the plan was to show off our new effect at a peak time during the evening. So at the appointed moment I told my assistant to drop the ice into the bucket. For those of you familiar with these machines that's a NO!NO!.You don't plunge a 30 lb block of dry ice into near boiling water. When he did that there was a sudden explosion of carbon dioxide fog that blew the lid off the machine and filled the DJ booth and service bar area with fog so thick I couldn't see a bloody thing. Not the turntables, records or console.I was having difficulty breathing and all I could hear were people yelling and thinking there was a fire in the service bar area.I managed to shut off the music and get on the mike and assure everyone that it was simply the fog machine effect that had gone astray and that everything would be back to normal shortly once the fog dissipated from the DJ booth and service area which took about 5 minutes. My assistant had fallen down the stairs from the DJ booth in panic colliding with a waitress who had just picked up a full tray of drinks from the bar. There was water all over the place in the bar area and booth from the water exploding.Luckily no one was really hurt or any euipment was damaged.
Needless to say our fog effect debut was a disaster and having used our entire supply of dry ice in one fell swoop we had to wait till the following evening to get it right.

You made me LOL BigM... Sadly Hollywood didn't catch this at the time. It could have been made as a major disaster movie in the "Airport" vein...

"They were dancing happily at their modern disco rhythms, oblivious to the clear and present danger in the fog machine!"

"CHOKING IN DRY ICE"... A new Paramount overcrouded production! :)

Luckily the records and equipment weren't damaged just a few drops of water here and there. The service bar area got the worst of it.
