    Georgy Porgy

Ok, it's not disco, but can anybody tell me who recorded the original version of this tune? (Eric Benet covered it a couple of years back)

    Thanks

But Danny, IT WAS DISCO, IT WAS!!!!!!

Toto with Cheryl Lynn singing the chorus, to be exact.

    A "Morning/Sleaze CLASSIC!!!"

Eric Benet's cover with Faith Evans was pretty good--BUT THE ORIGINAL IS THE CLASSIC!!!!! :P

Danny, if you like "Georgy Porgy" try Boz Scaggs' "Lowdown" (1977). It's composed, arranged and played by Toto as session group. Very much in the same vein, and a true blue-eyed soul classic. 8)

Yes, I was just gonna mention Charme and I see someone else did  . A rare Jaques Fred Petrus production with Luther Vandross on lead vocals. Both Toto and Charme were both very much disco and as Marky said..the original was a morning classic!

    HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!!!

Charme's "Georgy porgy" is a cover produced by Jacques Fred Petrus???? In other words, one of my all-time favorite songs has been done (in cover) by my all time most favorite producer. :o

If someone (ANYONE) can tell me more about this (release date, label, anything) I will be most grateful. The hunt is on.

I just wanted to ad that "Lowdown" has also been covered by British outfit Hindsight (1987). Excellent cover!

And if you like these two tracks, you will also love "What you won't do for love' by Bobby Caldwell.

Oh hell, that Bobby Caldwell is a classic! As is it's B side "Love Won't Wait". As for the Petrus, all I know is it's very very rare and I got a copy of it from a friend, but not the original vinyl. I'd actualy like to get my hands on the vinyl myself. It sounds very much like it shoulda been on the Change "Glow Of Love" LP! If anyone has info please post it here.

    Marteen,

    don't worry!!!!

The CHARME version is produced and arranged by MISHA SEGAL, and was released on RCA in 1979 (RCA JD 13910) with a Jonathan Fearing mix. Misha Segal was also responsible for the SAMBA SOUL disco album from 1978, again on RCA.

Giovanni is correct. JFP is not responsible for this album.

    EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/CONCEPTOR: JORGE ALBERTO PINO
    ARRANGED & PRODUCED: MISHA SEGAL
    VOCAL ARRANGEMENTS: DEBORAH McDUFFIE

I should have corrected the post the other day but my bad habit of procrastination is in full gear.

    It is Luther Vandross

It is indeed Luther Vandross. Other vocalists include Fonzi Thornton, Sharon Redd and Ula Hedwig. The album where this track can be found is called "Let it in" (RCA 1979) and apparently was re-released in 1984 with some success on the billboard charts.

The line up of singers sounds pretty good... the Georgy Porgy track is great... so is Charme worth buying... a review by a knowledgable owner would be great :D

    Maarten,
I have that album and I think that is a good LP but really nothing special, like many other albums made by studio acts in the late 70s. Good arrangements and good vocals too. Other tracks I can suggest are "Do it for love", "Let it in", "Never (gonna let you go)".

And finally, one gem for all of you here in the board who don't know.....
..... there are two 12 inch releases of "Georgie Porgie"

RCA JD-11728 Georgie Porgie / Do it for love
RCA JD-13910 Georgie Porgie / ST (instrumental)

Was the 12" of Geo Por different from the album version?
