    the very last disco song

ok,ok, i know what you guys are saying, there is no last disco song because disco just evolved into what it is today. but what was the last disco "sounding" song before it evolved into the electro-disco sounds of the early eighties? e.g. shannon, afrika bambatta, etc.
i say it would have to be stereo fun inc.'s "got you where i want you babe" from 1983. this song still had that "1979" sound in 83. it was like they recorded it in the late seventies, put it on the shelf for a few years and then released it in 83. what do you guys think???

    02,

I really like your topic here :) .... the last disco song, huh? Well gee, let me guess. With the decline of the sound that made disco popular, it will depend on one's view... It seemed liked the sound disappeared, then reappeared. I'm wondering if we can consider Robin S - Show Me Love? However many songs during that year kinda sounded like that... plus, I've been out of the loop as far as underground disco is concerned.

Although this topic is gonna create some controversy as to when it ended, i'm really looking forward to seeing some of the choices from the newer/younger members on their picks. :D

    The Very Last Disco Song

Hi :) .It´s considered that Fresh Band´s Come Back Lover from 1984 is the last Disco Song...although from my point of view Disco never went away,it just evolved into other forms...There´s some songs that are considered House that i think they owe more to Disco than House, like Kings Of Tomorrow´s Finally (original mix)

Don't know if it was the last SONG of the genre, but certainly "Caribbean Queen" by Billy Ocean (1984) was the last disco hit, IMHO.
Both "Caribbean Queen" and Lionel Richie's "All night long" (1983) did sound a bit dated in between the dance sounds of the day (tecno-pop, breakdance, Huey Lewis' "I want a new drug", Al Corley, etc.) I guess DJs had a hard time mixing so different styles.
Take note that also these two hits were on the same string, a kinda "Latin" disco sound.

I always thought that M & M's 'Black Stations White Stations' from '84 had quite an old-fashioned (ie Good!) 'disco' sound. Oh & 'Glow' by Rick James from '85 was quite disco too.

For me, 'Searchin'' by Arts & Crafts from 1985 is the last, true disco record. It has real drums and percussion, (synthetic) strings and an old-fashioned vocal. Believe me - when you hear it for the first time, it sounds like an old Philly track. It was miles away from Walter Gibbons' other projects from that time.

Another non-sampled/original (but house) gem from the latter '80s is Peter Black's 'How Far I Go' on DJ International. Again - very much in a Philly/Salsoul vein, from the composition thru to the arrangement. Probably sounds very weak now, but certainly great first time around.

using 02tranzam's definition of the disco genre, I'd say the last disco song i know is "(it's) The Game". A largely instrumental track from percussionist Ralph Macdonald's 1984 "Universal Rhythm" set.

it really has 1978 written all over it!!

check 'the boogie that be' by the black eyed peas (2003), 'boogie 2nite' by tweet (2003) and 'men are not nice guys' by grand popo football club (2001) and tell me they are not disco. And what about rock your body by justin timberlake?

The delectable Sophie Ellis Bextor crossed her shapely legs and gave an interview saying she loves being a disco diva. So, that makes her new stuff offically disco and that's just out.

I think she looks like a tuning fork. Or maybe a baking tray. She has been likened to a satellite dish, also.

i know what u are talking about. My guess is that it would have to be around '82 or '83. Although by '82 freestyle was born already. Maybe the last disco song that was a disco style of the '70's might be Vincent Montana's - Heavy Vibes from '82 which sounded close to '75.

Naturally, but wouldn't you rather be seen entering the Groucho Club with Ms Ellis Bextor than Kelly Marie?

Well..the last disco track??? it never ended! It took a break maybe for a few years between 84 - 85. I mean listen to "You Spin Me Round" by Dead Or Alive or even the 12'' mix of "Vienna Calling" by Falco (also known as "the tourist version" on the US 12''). Then of corse today's deep house.

    Style over substance, Jussi.
Sophie is by far the worst singer on the scene today and the biggest fraud with her very middle class upbringing and fake cockneyed vocals. She ain't exactly good looking either. I'm sure even Kelly Marie was more of a babe. Ms Ellis-Bextor's vocal treatment just leaves me raging at the radio or the TV whenever I hear her, but she's currently a fashion item, so you should enjoy her for a few more minutes, until you decide she has become passe.

The link between cats, satellite dishes and disco has never been discussed before. I think we should seize the chance now.

I'm sure you're thinking of the wrong woman, Quinny - Kelly Marie looked like a member of the New York Dolls!
