Help with an ID? Sample provided

    Hi guys-

I recorded this from Radio FG (Paris) in April, from a live lounge set... two of the people I've played the mp3 for say this feels like very 1980 disco. It's an instrumental piece, and 5:21 in length (from what I've got)...

Link to it on my webspace is below: 4.9 megs...

Any help is GREATLY appreciated... plus, if this is similar to much bona fide disco produced during the era, I'd like to know titles and artists i need to track down.

    Thanks in advance...

I have no idea what it is, but I wouldn't imagine it's old at all. Sounds very 'house' to me. There's a lot of product aiming for that early '80s feel out there, so if no one here knows this, you may have success if you play it to someone behind the counter in a current dance shop.

It's a bit like some of the Daniel Wang/Morgan Geist product from the past few years.

I agree with you, I didn't think this felt very old... but the people I've played it for said it's got a trademark 1980 feel to it... I really have no idea what it is, but everything is obviously synth'd in that thing... Do you have any track names I ought to look for for the Daniel Wang/Morgan Geist tracks?

    Thanks!

Best to try your hand with the compilations first. Daniel Wang's Balihu comp. is called 'I Was A Disco Malcontent' and has most of the early Balihu (his label) 12"s in full versions. Some of the tracks are a little O.T.T. but there are definitely some goodies on there.

Morgan Geist-wise, look out for the Metro Area compilation which came out last year. Again, not all mind-blowing (some of the stuff is just too empty) but Metro Area 12" #14, 'Miura', is quite wonderful. It was a big record over here and it's rather cute & very, very disco.

Environ 12" #12, 'Super', features 'Sleaze' & 'Lullaby', the latter of which is definitely the cutest record of 2001!

"Miura" has been widely played in clubs in France too. It's a real dancefloor killer.

When I first listened to it, I thought your sample was a song by the "Clones", a french group. But I just came home, listened to their only LP that has been recently issued, and it's unfortunately not it.

But it doesn't sound 80's to me, I really think it's a quite recent track.

This is NOT a 80´s song. 100% sure.
its produced recently. I´ve heard this somewhere but forgot. there are tons of tracks like this one hence the 80´s revival.
its bad "metro area" to me..
    cheers

I know of Metro Area - Miura... I dunno, it felt pretty poorly structured, but definitely minimalistic disco... had no idea that was Morgan Geist.

As for the other one, I'll look into checking Daniel Wang out... Forrrce: What does O.T.T. mean?

Thanks for all the help... I might have another one for you to try to ID for me later... also from a live Radio FG set, though I do know for sure it's not disco and not 80s... though similar in style to this one...

I quite like this a bit better than "Metro Area", though I've only heard two songs from the album... still need to find it, or maybe buy it...

Forrrce: Thanks for the help... still haven't found out /who/ it is, but that's OK.

Guys, link has been removed because I needed the space on my website again.
