Hot Tracks has change his management, but this or next week come out a new Street Tracks issue.
Hot Tracks has gone through many management/remixer changes over the last 20 years. Unfortunately, they aren't the creative force they once were in the 80's, IMO.
I stopped purchasing them about 10 years ago because the song selection and re-edits weren't really that exciting. They've been trying several different approaches to the business - packaging 2 CDs in each issue(1 with Hot Tracks remixes the other with label released remixes), expanding with different sub-services (XL, NRG, Street).
I did like their "Disco Classics" issues (that used to come out once a year) but I don't think they've released a new Disco Classics in several years. THE EDGE series (80's new wave and dance rock) was interesting too, but I think that series petered out.
thanks guys for the info!
i see over at their site they have a new issue out now (22-4)
Here's a reply direct from Hot Tracks regarding their current situation:
"The report of our demise is greatly exaggerated." We are still around. In fact we've released 3 new issues in the last 2 weeks and have another coming next week. We had a delay in issues due to a change in our program director (he got a promotion at his radio station) and we are currently trying to find a permanent replacement.
Also, please pass along the news that we will launch our new web site in less than 10 days (we just need to iron out problems with the data base and it will be good to go!. After that, it will go live.) We have been trying to get the thing live for a while, that is why our site hasn't been updated. We finally gave in and will update the site tomorrow instead of waiting for the bugs to be cleaned up in the new site.
Sincerely,
Scott Cox
