    Dare to admit it??

Songs you like but you're somehow embarrassed to tell others!! I have a few that definetely do not fit into my "musical profile"

    here's some of them:

    P.O.D. - Alive
    Blink 182 - Rockshow
Sum 42 - Makes No Difference
    Blues Traveller - Runaround
    Dishwala - Counting Blue Cars.

I wouldn't say these song represent "the real me"
but i like them even though they're pretty far removed from what I normally listen to.

    So what's yours?? :)

:( Damn You K-Bee! I'll be that laughing stock of Discomusic.com! LOL. Here's my Top 5 (and yes I am ashamed! haha) :

    1) WHY NOT by Hilary Duff - What can I say? LOL. For all her lack of musical talent she's still a gorgeous piece of teenaged ass! And this is a catchy tune.

    2) AFTERNOON DELIGHT by Starland Vocal Band - Hey!, It's a catchy tune!

    3) LOVE IS THICKER THAN WATER by Andy Gibb - This is corny but it's a really good song.

    4) GYPSIES, TRAMPS AND THIEVES by Cher - I can't believe I'm admitting this! LMAO!

    5) TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART by Bonnie Tyler - Listen Brighteyes!, I know that I'm not the only one who likes this song! LOL. Good corny fun! :D

Dr K-Bee, here is what I'm ashamed to like :

    - Allmost every song by Queen and Nirvana
    - Eurodance of the early 90's (Dr Alban, Corona, etc ...). Some of the first Cds I payed out of my pocket (I was 10 years old)
    - My Sharona
    I\'m a Victim ( of th very Song I sing )

Tracks that I like but feel embarrassed about include 'Running Up That Hill' - Kate Bush, 'Chemistry' - The Nolans, 'Big Time' - Peter Gabriel, 'Take Me Im Yours' - Squeeze, 'Video Killed The Radio Star' - The Buggles, 'Venus As A Boy' - Bjork, 'Fantasy Island' - Tight Fit & 'Bridge To Your Heart' - Wax. There, I've got that out in the open & I now feel cleansed. :-?

    Some recent listening:

    Joni Mitchell 'Amelia'

The Specials 'Gangsters' (still love it)

    Stills-Young Band 'Black Coral'

Johnny Cash 'Hurt' (a very deep song to these ears)

Alison Moorer 'Tumbling Down' (I'm not usually one for that chicken s**t muthaf**ka country nonsense, but I dig this)

    Fine Young Cannibals 'Good Thing'

Soul Sister 'The Way To Your Heart' (cheesy, Euro Motown-styled pop, but what lovely chords) :o

Lieutenant Pigeon 'Mouldy Old Dough' (can't say I ain't diverse!)

Yikes.... out in the open with your most bizarre fav's :P

    Being a part time rock-dj i can only support k-bee's P.O.D. !
Those christian guys rock big time ....

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to heaven (A classic that no one may be without)

Les Crane - Desiderata (Heard this as a child and it stayed with me till now) :)

Merle Haggard - The Fugitive (Really gets to me somehow)

Styx - Babe and Tarney Spencer band - Cathy's clown (First heartbreak  )

Most stuff by Vivaldi, Rossini, Saint-Saens etc..... (know your classics)

Most Simple Minds stuff.. (especially the early works like New gold dream and Once upon a time)

Did i mention selected Abba, Streisand, Vanelli tracks (really ahsamed now)

Forrrce: Do I sniff a hip new record with Lieutenant Pigeon buried in it, somewhere, hence the retro glance? Tell me that this tune hasn't already been digitised and sampled.

If you really want a list of music I'm ashamed of and I like................... don't think there is any.

However, I'm truly ashamed of an awful lotta stuff from the '60s, 'cos it all sounds soooooo dated now and I'm increasingly not liking most of it. What really erks me is the rose tinted spectacles that my contemporaries put on whenever they talk about the music from the era. I try to live for today and tomorrow and absolutely detest the 'nudge, nudge, wink, wink, that was real music' attitude, that most people of a certain age tend to adopt.
There's a radio programme called 'Sounds of the Sixties' that I'm forced to listen to every Saturday morning, 'cos my wife likes to listen to it. What was once a reasonably good idea has now become a show for know all freaks. There's the most bizarre, obscure CRAP played on occasions, that makes me wonder why anyone would ever or could ever admit to liking it. At times, it's a show for the truly diabolical!!!!!! However, it's from the '60s soooo it has to be good!!

Some of the songs I still dig (hip, dated word) would be things like:
The Who - Sustitute, I Can See For Miles, (the Who were one of my fave bands. 'Miles' was THE Who record that got away. I remember seeing them on TOTP 3 weeks in a row and it still only peaked at #11. Any other record would have been at #1 or #2 with sooo much exposure. Guess other people just didn't like it?))
Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze, (this is the track that turned me onto Hendrix big time)
The Misunderstood - Children Of The Sun, (this has manic feedback guitar that simulates what sex feels like or when you get to that state over something and you have to shout out F*** it. It's such a release)
The Animals - Don't Bring Me Down, (moody, atmospheric record that gave me a special, special feeling)
Spencer Davis Group - Keep On Runnin', I'm A Man, (a classmate and I used to drive the Art teacher nuts by singing these tunes during Art lessons.)
Sam & Dave - Soul Man ( What an intro!!! This track has so much BALLS for a soul record. When so many others of the genre were sweet, sophisticated and pretty tame, this slammed hard and told it like it is. Gutsy, life affirming music that still makes me feel warm inside)
Skatalites - Guns Of Navarone (infectious, shambolic Ska music that typifies the genre for me. It was like disco in some ways, in that it was the dance music of its day, it borrowed a lot of tunes and made them 'hits', there were real instruments, people jumped on the bandwagon and wrecked it)
and.....two just out of the '60s
Neil Young - Heart Of Gold/Crazy Horse - Cinnamon Girl - I just loved Neil Young's incredibly plaintive voice and in Cinnamon Girl the simple tough guitars)

There's countless others of course, but these came to my feeble brain this morning.

    Can I be excused now?

Arf. It's a red herring, really - I haven't played this lately (but I do actually have it - just happy memories of being a kid  ) - but I have heard it recently - recreated, I think, for an advert. It could be hip, though - it has that military drum break  - but I'm not sure if it's in keeping with today's sound!

I'm a bit of a bubblegummer at heart, Quinny, being a '60s conception. I've also flushed any credibility I may have had straight down the kaze. :o

Noticed too that DJ-Pir is spinning Simple Minds. Never been a fan but I'd love to be let loose with the multis for "I Travel" and a s**t hot engineer. You listening, Jim????

Forrrce: I was 16/17 when bubblegum came onto the scene and I loved it.
I still have a very soft spot for Kazenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus and Quick Joey Small. The ultra dry, ultra tongue in cheek delivery of a song about a jail breaker, the cooing chicks, the really rocky feel and on Kama Sutra (or was it Buddah) records too!!

Am I embarrassed or ashamed to say so.....nah!!!!!

I must admit it's been very interesting to see what makes you guys move 'n groove besides the disco funk stuff we all love......keep 'em coming :) We seem to have a lot of 60s-70s rock fans out there....i'd never would have guessed that!

BTW I failed to mention my odd fascination for the Justin Timberlake album. That guy can actually sing - I may even consider buying the damn cd (well, when it goes on sale that is  )

I can't believe you guys mention Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. Two of my favorite singers/songwriters during the last 20 years! I'm not only not ashamed of them, I try every once in a while to dig them through some of my friends' fried ears. "Hejira" is one of the best records that ever graced the face of the earth! 8)

Anyway, back to issue, these artists I still really like but don't mention them that much:
    -Gerry Rafferty
    -Olivia Newton-John
    -Eddy Grant
    -Gino Vanelli
    -Raffaella Carrá
-Erasure (lotsa mock-gay jokes when this sounds at a party)
-Neil Diamond. Yes, I said it. NEIL DIAMOND! :o

Also most of my friends don't dig disco music really (hence my participation in this forum). But there are other tracks more deserving of "guilty" pleasure on my part. Here's some of them downloaded to make "mood" compilations:
    -GILBERT O'SULLIVAN - Clair
    -BREAD - Everything I own
-AL STEWART - Year of the cat
    -HERB ALPERT - Rise
-BOB WELCH - Sentimental lady
    -PLAYER - Baby come back
-AIR SUPPLY - Lost in love (ouch!)
-ALESSI - All for a reason (double ouch!)
-STEPHEN BISHOP - One more night (this is turning to the bizarre)
-CHRIS REA - Fool if you think it's over
-CHRISTOPHER CROSS - Sailing (I used to listen to this on lonely teenage nights in my bedroom... aaaagggghhh!!!)

Cheesy, cheesy, CHEESY!!!  :P

Silly Love Songs-Paul McCartney.I liked the the bass line and horn arrangements in this sweet syrupy disco offering from Le Beatle.

Oh, this is scarey. OK -- here we go.

    Boy-bands first  :
"Everybody (Backstreet's Back) - Backstreet Boys
    "I Want You Back" - N'Sync

    Over-stylized soul:
"Sittin' On The Dock of The Bay" - Michael Bolton

    Wheezy-Listening:
"Ebudae" - Enya (I actually called CBS the next day after this aired on Northern Exposure. Somewhere deep down I knew it was Celtic even though they were using it as background for a North American Indian tribal scene. :o )

    Pure schmaltz:
Every Carpenter's album released between 1969 and 1973. (Yes, The Carpenters  . I think they call this an OGT --- Obvious Gay Trait :D :P )

In my record collection, I have "I Think I Love You" by The Partridge Family.

Oh and I also have "Over My Head" by Toni Basil. That one drew a lot of praise the last time I mentioned it.

    Come on E! :D ,

I was with you until I saw Patti Drew's name on the list! 'Tell Him' is nothing to be ashamed of! It's top of the line, late 60's Soul. A fine record!
