Red Greg Records - Ronnie Hudson

Hello!

I have got 2 short questions.

1) Does somebody know what the original release of Ronnie Hudson and the Street People "West coast poplock" was???

The song was sampled many many times, for example by 2 Pac "California Love".
I know there was a release on "street people" and on "birdie"
This year there was a reissue, that was on birdie...

2) Did somebody ever see a RED GREG Testpressing?
Red Greg is really rare in general I know, but yesterday I bought a testpressing of Universal Robot Bands "Freak in the light..." LP. I never saw a testpressing before, so I just wanted to ask.

'East Coast Poplock' (Birdie) was a 'regional' rehash of 'West Coast Poplock' (Street People) which itself was a rehash of Roger's 'So Ruff, So Tuff'.

The Roger tune was pretty influential - it also spawned further imitations in One Way's 'Cutie Pie' and Hurt 'Em Bad's 'N.B.A. Rap', within a short space of time.

I should imagine the release(s?) on Greg (without the 'Red') is/are of a little more interest than a test pressing of a fairly common U.R.B. LP. But, I could be wrong.

Of course, the GREG label, and the sublabels Almeria, Shrylden, Kimsha and Dance Disk are really hard to get!

But I was quite afraid, when I saw the first Red Greg advanced Test last week....
I never saw one before... And I am really happy that I got it. 8))

hmm, the label scan says "west coast poplock" on the birdie release as well, should I listen to it, or is there a difference?

I've been looking for "North Coast Pop Lock" for sometime. I've heard it is on a Polish Birdie 7" TP which was circulating just after the second world war and given away with a medal.

My copy is on Birdie (cat # 12 BD 1002) and titled "West Coast Poplock". I don't know any "East Coast Poplock"....
please Forrrce give us infos!

I don't particularly like test pressings, especially if not different from promo or commercial pressings. Is this Red Greg any rare or a test press of a known record?

I've obviously confused the Poplocks. The Birdie is the 'West Coast', which is on a blue label - and the Street People ('East Coast') is on a silver label, very much in the style of Rappers Rapp Disco Co. and such L.A. labels (#STP 1003). Hope that clears things up, Giovanni.

Leatherman, I do believe Quinny made a 'South Coast Poplock' as well.

hmm, a birdie copy, as well as a street people copy can be found on ebay!

just search for "ronnie hudson"

but they are all called "west coast poplock"
I personally own a whitelabel promo on birdie.

The seller of the street people copy claims in the description that the street people copy was the first/original pressing, before it was reissued (blue label).

Very interesting: The Birdie as well as the Street People release has CatNr: BD1002.

On the other hand, its a street people production, so why not released first on the "street people" label?...

quite perplexing...

Well, my Street People 12" is definitely 'East Coast Poplock' - 'on the east coast, we know how to party', etc. checking D.C. and Baltimore for the party people.

I've seen both versions countless times, but never 'West Coast...' on Street People. I don't have the Birdie 12 to hand so I can't check the address - maybe they're just regional issues, with Birdie being an east coast label, perhaps?
