Well..all I have to say and I think probably 80 % of the members here would agree with me is...music is pretty much been a joke and dead since the 90's have came in. Theres been some good stuff to come out since but thats been by artists that have been around since at least the 80s and some of todays modern disco (which people like to call deep house cause they still fear the word disco LOL). As for todays pop charts, it's all geared twards teenie boppers and young children. Anything by Christina Agulara, Britney, etc is all inmature kiddie music and lacks serious talent! To be in pop charts today you have to do that kiddie music, scream and yell like your Bob Geldof in the Pink Floyd video/movie over sour distorted guitars or sing like Luciano Pavarotti on crack over the same 2 or 3 chords and call it rock music. I chose to remain in the 70's and 80's..it's much more peaceful there LOL

I agree on some points discussed here... however, not much has changed in the music business...

For instance, in the 50's when rock and roll started, it was the blacks that got things going. Doo Wop music was cool with artists singing great ballads with songs such as THE PLATTERS - THE GREAT PRETENDER, FATS DOMINO - BLUEBERRY HILL & FLAMINGOS - I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU. Other uptempo doo wop songs weren't even excepted by the adults... Even Elvis Presley, Little Richard & Chuck Berry music was considered music by the devil... lmao

Don't matter what decade you are in, adults are not going to enjoy.

Well..I highly disagree efunk. There is no musical talent to anyone today (accept very very few..could count em on one hand lol). Me being a former musician can tell you this from knowing the basics of whats what with it. It has nothing to do with black, white, oriental, yellow, green or any color or race or anything to that nature. The poor excuse for what they try to call rock today is the same one or two chords with no even attempted arrangement to hide the fact that its what it is (shows the lack of musical knowlage and talent on these so called artists). Then like I was saying, they all try to copy the same voice all the time, nothing original. It all began with Eddie Veddor (however ya spell his name). He's the originator of that annoying "luciano pavarotti on crack" voice. Then you have your typical female vocal in rock that all sounds the same..that soft femish kinda voice that you cant tell one apart from the other (cant come up with a nick name but listen to any of these jokes today and you'll see what I mean). Then also in the so called rock for vocals theres the ones that scream and yell all the same and also the over emphisis on the "ohhwwww" accent style (Green Day started this annoying trend). Also..listen for guitar solos in any of todays garbage..95 % of the time..you wont find it. Also, most of these so called artists dont even write their own ****! It's non tallented. As for the rap and hip hop of today? LOL..well, that no talent speaks for itself. Lets take Bowie and Police tracks from the 80s and moan and rhyme over them (Puff Diddy, Daddy..whatever the **** that loser calls himself now). At least when the rap and hip hop thing was starting it was all played by the artists themselves (yes, even though Sugarhill Gang's Rappers Delight was the Chic bassline off "Good Times" it was still played by them..like a cover tune in a sort..and they gave credit for it). Also, it was great, fun stuff..didnt all sound the same. Now in hip hop and rap, the rap is all volgar bullshit promoting racisim, violence, rape and downgrading women for the most part and the stuff that dont (the hip hop/poor excuse for R&B), has the same programmed beat from the same drum machine..also..like the rock music..same singing voices ..havent come up with a nick name for this style in this catogory today but..the females and the males all sound the same...Craig David, R. Kelly, Ginuwine..all the same. Then the gals..all the same. Take a closer listen to todays music and keep in mind all that I said here and you'll see exactly what im talkin bout. I can apreciate any kind of real music from any era as long as it's music and tallented and real musicans (I even like stuff from as far back as the 40's big band era stuff). People tend to call these rappers today musicians..what instrument do they play?????? Also vocalists..what do they sing??????? At least with the old school rap/hip hop..they did play **** and were real muscians (ex: Run DMC, Whodini, Sugar Hill Gang, etc) Its just as of 1990 or so..it all went down hill. Thats my lecture for today LOL.

PS Even Yanni unremixed with no beat and C Minor is even better than anything today  (private joke)

I've certainly noticed this over the years. It seems that Rap music has influenced the pop song of today so much that you now get a string of words all "sung" on the same note and maybe a sorta catchy chorus. The verse is sung as if it were a rap. I don't know if they are incapable of actually writing "music" with melody or the kidz just don't want it or see the point.

Oh, and also...I saw that Spike Lee, of all people, is on a rant against RAP (at least the GANGSTA BLING BLING ****). I saw a teaser of his debate with a rapper from Joe Scarborough's show on MSNBC last night. :o

    Hi everyone

    Jimmy
You pretty much said everything that I feel so I don't have to go any further except there are a very few musicians in todays music industry such as Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow and the Roots. But no one can hold a candle to the "old school" musicians like Jimmy Page, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Hendrix etc....The Neptunes are in great demand. It seems like everyone wants them to write songs for their cds. Pharrell has a beautiful voice! IMO, I think he has the best voice out there today its distinctive, apart from all the others. Why did he sing in that crappy song "Change Clothes" with Jay-Z :-? :x ?????????????? its a waste of his vocal talents :x !
(Puff Diddy Daddy         )

Spike Lee is totally against gangsta rap music. He says its dangerous, vile, demeaning and destructive to the black community and HE'S RIGHT! The rappers don't like him because he speaks the truth - something that they refuse to face! When he make films about the "evils of the white man"(RACISM), they like him - as long as he don't bring up the evils of the black man he would remain on their good side. Spike dosen't have any problems with old school rap like the SugarHill Gang, Kurtis Blow etc...because it was clean and entertaining as DJ Jimmy described. When Bill O'Reilly slams rap, he's a racist and when Spike slams rap, he's not a "real brother" and a turncoat/traitor - either way you can't win.

    P.S - I can't stand Britney and Madonna  :x  !

    That Britney/Madonna Song....

Talking about recent music...it sure ain´t as good as it was in the 70s and the 80s...I laugh myself when i see Avril Lavigne saying that she´s a Punk Rocker...If she´s a Punk Rocker i´m Sid Vicious...About that Britney/Madonna song...it´s better than some things Britney has made, but Madonna has done much much better...stuff like Holliday,Into The Groove,Deeper & Deeper,Ray Of Light...I find that lot´s of people (In Portugal, the country where i live and particullary in Setúbal, the city i live) have a real bad taste in music...But i think also that the bad taste people have is because of the format playlists that are played in most of the radio stations, and the bar/club owners or managers...particullary in the city i live, people are really ignorant about music. In the capital,Lisbon people are a bit more open minded, but where i live...damn.Nothing saddens me more than seeing people dancing to stuff like Shakira and Las Ketchup (aserere bleurgh :-? ).So much great stuff, older and newer...why play the horrible stuff?
