About 22 years ago Macho did a remake in a disco version of the Steve Wynwood rock song "I'm a man" I have the 12" somewhere in my archives. It's one of my favorite tunes. Is is still on vinyl or CD?

    Caddy,

Macho's "I''m A Man" in only a 7:40 version appeared on a long out of print CD called Prelude Greatest Hits IV which I bought in the late 80s/early 90s. It also contains "Disco Circus" and I've Got A Treat" by Martin Circus along with a 6:24 version of Jocelyn Brown's "Somebody Elses Guy." NOTE: Be careful searching because the tracklisting was later changed, but retained the same comp title and artwork

    Hello Caddy:

As far as I know (I am almost sure) there is no CD with the full length of I'm a Man. I have searched most of the internet CD stores and none have it.

But as a solution you could find it in Audiogalaxy.com in its full length (which means 17:35 of excitment) and it was encoded in 192kbps meaning that you will have a near

CD quality (the file size is 25.3 MB), then, after converting from MP3 to CDA and using a CD recorder, well... you know what to do...

    Hope this helped!!

    Bernie,

My copy of "I've got a treat" is a french or italian 12" copy (can't check now), but I never saw it on Prelude nor I knew it was ever released in the US. On the many sites listing the Prelude catalogue it is not included.

Anyone here knowing if this track was ever issued by Prelude and its code number??

I wondered about this as well. It clocks in at 6:52. Is this the same as your 12?" It also lists it as copyright 1979 Prelude Records.

My copy of "I've got a treat" is on Vogue records (3250-10515), it clocks at 7:53(79), the A side is "shine baby Shine" at 7:07, IMO a much better song, but I don't remeber playing this 12" much.

My copy too is on Vogue. Maybe this was licensed to Prelude for the US, but never released commercially. Maybe one of the mistery missing codes of Prelude (PRL D 524 ???)

I'm very fortunate to have Macho - I'm a Man LP on Prelude Records. Over 17 minutes of pure Disco at its best. I hope that your quest to find this LP is within your grasp.

    I love the MACHO"I´m A Man"-LP. On the b-side

the 10minute-track "Cause There´s Music In

The Air" should be also recommended!!!

I laughed a lot when I rediscovered Macho's LP cover... couldn't be more gay! But in Argentina 1979 almost nobody knew the dress code, much less a 14 year old as I was... Same thing happened with Village People and Freddie Mercury's new look. All this records were released then, when my country was suffering a military dictatorship (the last of many) and censorship was very strong. But I guess censors didn't have a clue about those sailors and leather jackets either. :)

Anyway, it's a very good record. The title track stands up very well with so much years passed. The long instrumental break is very trancey, and could be played in the midst of a rave without anyone noticing, I think.
Kudos to Mauro Malavasi and Fred Petrus for making this record. And the better news is my newfound copy seemed to be unplayed! 8)

I presume Revanche's "Musician" (also 1979 and by Malavasi/Petrus) goes on the same style. Am I right?
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

Recently I picked up a Prelude Promo 12” of “I’m a man” (PRL-D 155 AS) ‘mix by Savarese’ that clocks at 11:00, I always used the LP back then and didn’t know of this 12” at all, the flip contains “Because there is music in the air” 10:25 also mix by Savarese; It even includes a Prelude newsletter that really sparked my curiosity in the first place.

“ This Package contains the 10- minute edit of “I’m a man” (label reads 11:00 !) just to give you an alternative to the 17 minute version from the album. There are only a limited number been press for promotional use , so hang onto it because once they are all distributed , it wont be possible to replace it…. the letter goes on to talk about “In the Bush” and support from local NYC and others radio stations.

Pretty certain I have the Macho version on a mid-'90s Prelude/Unidisc CD, but can't find it in the pile. Found the 'Star Funk' volume with the Star City rendition of 'I'm A Man', which is rather showbizzy.

One unfortunate thing about this album is that US Prelude copies have a massive mastering flaw: the right channel slowly dies over the course of the record. How this ever got past basic QC is beyond me.

Canadian copies don't have this problem, although the only one I've found is in poor shape. Still looking for a Euro copy...

I have this as well and recently put it in the new CD section of the site at...

Be warned however that later copies of this compilation omitted the Macho track so check very carefully!

In 1993 Unidisc Records released Macho "I'm a man" (11:26 edit) along with Peter Jacques Band "Walking on Music" (8:31) and "Fire Night Dance" (8:42) as a 12" Classics CD Single (SP5-1334) But it seems it went out of stock and they no longer produced it again.

That's too bad since they own the rights of the Prelude Catalogue and there are acts that have never seen the light on CD (Martin Circus, Theo Vaness, Peter Jaques Band, UN)

By the same time I got a copy of Tantra "Hills of Katmandu" on CD from the same series (SP5-1229)
