Hey, Im Lloyd, 19 from Sunshine Coast, Qld, it sounds awesome!! I would love to be there, but its a bit far away. however i would be interested, and if you do another one, i'll consider a road trip!!!
==This Friday night==
Sous Sol
25 Bank Place
Melbourne Australia
Music: Bryan Bergman of Needle to the Groove.
Night starting soon, this Friday sneak preview ;)
Anyone up for either...
a: experiencing (or remembering) REAL disco tracks (not your average commercial radio disco but the real deal that serious clubbers of the day danced to)...
=or=
b: discovering where most of todays classic house tracks take their inspiration from...
=or=
c: enjoying a night of "spot that sample" madness...
...should genuinely pay a visit this Friday (21st Nov) to Sous Sol, 25 Bank Place, Melbourne. (prev The Kitchen).
If you've genuinely wondered (or remember!) what tunes were dropped by legends the likes of Jim Burgess, John Ceglia, David Mancuso, Nicky Siano or Larry Levan (to name but 5) during the 70's & early/mid 80's, then you should drop into Sous Sol this Friday night between 11pm & 3am and they'll be on the decks. (the records, that is...)
This is not your average disco funk night. You won't enjoy it if you're hoping to hear worn out overplayed commercial stuff like Superstition or Celebration. This is the real deal.
I'll be dropping faves that I haven't had the opportunity to play in a lonnnnnnnnng time - and if you enjoy TRUE original real disco funk vinyl that you won't hear at a tacky commercial retro night, then you'll have a ball - and get an education at the same time...!
Cheers!

I'm interested to see what kind of response you got on the opening night? I don't think theres ever been a club in Mebourne let alone Australia that has played underground disco (obscure disco trax).
Cheers
P.S What other clubs have you worked at?
Hey Whistler!
Sorry it's taken a bit for me to reply - I do plan for it to be a regular night, but it's never had an actual launch yet. The first unannounced evening was fantastic and I'll be there again tonight playing disco from 10pm till late (3am licence) I think there might be a birthday party coming along, so we may get a good crowd down again! I do have a few options open for venues and nights and hope to come up with a full launch soon and will most certainly keep this list informed :-)
I agree with you about the underground disco scene in Australia - I don't believe there is one whatsoever and I'm most anxious to carve myself a specialty in the field... Although I'm 32, I've had the pleasure of knowing & working with a handful of DJ's 10-15 years older than myself who were actively playing in the mid/late 70's and early 80's. I've learnt alot from their original styles - and I've thoroughly researched the music because I just love it's arrangements and musical variations when compared to dance music today. As much as I love playing house whenever possible, I get much more satisfaction going back to the original disco vibes which fascinated me on the radio as a kid :-) I started DJing in QLD in '88, overseas between 93-96, and now here.
Since arriving in Melbourne in late 96, I've played at a number of lounge-style venues about the place (rather than the larger clubs), venues like Sous Sol, Lou Lou, Saratoga, POW's OneLove Rockpit, Shebah, Mint, The Saint, The George, The Goods Shed, E-55 plus loads more... I've also 5 years of weekly shows during Kiss90 broadcasts under my belt and a number of private gigs which were truly club-calibre! Do keep your eyes out for a brand new bar/lounge opening on Chapel St in 2004 between Toorak Rd & Malvern Rd... Nothing is official yet, but if all falls into place I'll have a significant input into the music there... anyway - if you get this in time, perhaps drop into Sous Sol this evening, just mention my name at the door.
Cheers!
