Livin in the city "STREET TALK". u gotta take care

    Hello Freinds
My first listing in the Id section , Ok it sounds very early 80 ish , female vocalists , a cool laidback groove , nice horns !my type of classic !
    Lyrically it goes something like
    ..............STREET TALK ...
.......... livin in the city street talk ..
real music ( only lightly synthetic )
On the program I heard this on , in Australia this song was followed by a hip hop track with what sounded like three guys who have used and distorted a few lines from this song .
    ..............Learn to be strong .
you gotta take care of your own ..
If this tune rings any bells let me know .
    cheers

Something tells me this is 'Street Tough', by Ben E. King. It's on Atlantic from 1981 and was released on both LP & 12".

That'll be 'Sweet Talk' by Robin 'For The Very First Time' Beck.

There's a "Street Talk" on Gino Soccio's LP "Closer" from 1981 or 1982. Is that it? :o

Thank you, Forrrce. I'm really losing it lately.

Afroboy: The only other "Street Talk" I can think of is by B.C.G. (Bob Crewe Genertion). Mid 70's, big sound but minimal lyrics, considered an instrumental.

This should solve the mystery. I really think it's the Ben E. King song that Afroboy wants. Here's a short clip:

    Could it be...

    Sidewalk Talk (Madonna/JellyBean)?

    Hey Forrrce,

I didn't come back to this thread after he decided it was "Street Life" :o which in no way matched the lyrics he wrote.

I pulled my Ben E. King after playing your sample. You got it exactly right:

STREET TOUGH, LIVING ON THE CITY, STREET TOUGH
...WHEN YOU'RE STREET TOUGH, YOU GOT TO LEARN TO BE STRONG
WHEN YOU'RE STREET TOUGH, YOU GOT TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN

I'll give it to you my friend... you really know your music 8) . BTW, have you played this lp lately? I haven't touched it since forever. Still has a nice, smooth R&B groove/'club-teaser' sound going on. Side 1 / Track 2, "Made for Each Other", is kicking my butt right now. I don't remember ever playing this and now I'm wondering why. Underlying 4/4 complete with intro, background ladies, sweetened with strings and a nice break to top it off. What the hell was I thinking? Anyway, thanks for making me pull this out and give it another listen. :D
