    disco vinyl findings

Hi there i've been gone for a while,
and i was very surprised to fine a whole renewed Discomusic site! Djeezes it looks different; i even thought i got onto the wrong site. But i like it! It a great improvement and a very great database for keeping the discovibes alive.
    Anyways,
i've been gone for a while, and did some discoveries on Vinyl that i would like to share with you.
    Here we go:

REVELACION - The house of the rising sun - 1977 - Crocos Recordings. - WOOW this is nice! very nice! its an 16 minutes epos with superb latin guitar feel and great vocals. The Revelation suite was later re-recorded by Cerrone i think. But here it's int original version. And also the B-side Crocos dance is just tooo goood! I was lucky to find this in mint condition! :D

Wayne ST.John - Somethings Up (love me like the first time) - 1977 - Salsoul records. - Another fine orchestrated discotrack, by a group i never heard of. (does anmyone know more of this) I really like the track for its wall-of-sound Violin climaxes. Great!

Crown Heights Affair - Rock the World - 1978 - de-lite records - Was i surprised to find this one! I tought this was so rare i would never find it. Offcourse i bought it for the magnificent b-side ''SAY A PRAYER FOR TWO"; but the a-side "Rock the world" is also great! its a disco-funk-rap track, i never expected this from crown heights (since i only knew their say a prayer song) Very strange at first listening but it grows on ya.

LEON HAYWOOD - Don't push it Don't force it - a 1991 Unidisc re-release - Great track! and now I finnaly know wher Basement jaxx got their sample for their "Red Alert" hit from! :D DUUUUM dum dum dum ....

WIZZDOM - Free Bass / W-I-Z-Z-D-O-M - 1980 - TK records - This really isn't TK's best really, but I still like this for its funky guitar riff, the bassline and tempo. Funkin' disco all the way. I couldn't find any info on this artist, anyone?

SYL JOHNSON - Ms. Fine Brown Frame - 1982 - Vogue France - Another one of those great disco-funk track. This is a current favorite of mine! Super funky!

Sparque - Lets go dancin' - 1981 - West End
    Stone - Time - 1981 - West End
Two off the finest original elecrtofunk tracks on WestEnd!

    Chalice - Funky kind'a reggea - 1984 - Ariola
Third World - Now that we've found love - 1980(paul hatdcastle remix)
    Gwen Guthrie - Peanut Butter - 1983 - Island
3 fine examples of that disco-reggea that i have a weak spot for! That Peanut butter track had been on my wishlist for a long time! a timeless classic!

JELLYBEAN - THE MEXICAN - 1984 - EMI - This is really an electro b-boy classic! one for the breakdancers and the funky chica's. Big Tune!

Bobby O - I'm so hot for you - 1982 - BMC - One of the best Italo-disco tunes by Bobby-o. And recently sampled by different lectro-clash artist

And then I arrive at my oddities:

The Little Dabs - E.T. (every Time) - 1982 - Musicworks / BMC records This really is a strange one. An very weird electro track with vocals on top tha sound like 5 year old kids, a biit like Musical youth's pass the dutchie. I preffer the instrumental mix. I by the man a drink that can tell me more about this strange record.

but hold on, i've got more of these strange tracks:

VAN TWIST - Shaft - 1988 ? - Magic - This is a ultra rare electro mix of the famous shaft track! On white Vinyl! Van Twist is an alias for Mark Moulin a.k.a TELEX (remember moscow discow)

LE CLUB - Un fait Divers et rien de Plus - 1982 - Vogue france - Another fine example of how the french made minimalistic sexy electro-disco in the eighties. I really like this one!

GRAFFITI - RAP RAP MUSIC - 1982 - Rkm records - This actually is a very good french remake of POMUZIK by M. But here the sing about RAPmusic! I think it beats the original Popmuzik by far! Very funky electro-disco-rap track! Each time i play this people wanna know what it is because they recognise it, but can't place it. :P

and i could go on with more findings, but i think i'll spare some records for another post.

    Catch ya'll laters!

I do have this somewhere, but recall it being very average - almost poppy. Maybe time to re-investigate.

'Rock The World' is actually from late '82. I presume this is the 4-track 12" with 'Heavy Loving'? I much prefer that, though 'Rock...' is good fun.

LEON HAYWOOD - Don't push it Don't force it - a 1991 Unidisc re-release - Great track! and now I finnaly know wher Basement jaxx got their sample for their "Red Alert" hit from! DUUUUM dum dum dum ....

Not the source of the Basement Jaxx sample, though there were a few records which had a similar slant from that era, i.e. Al Hudson's 'You Can Do It' and Locksmith's 'far Beyond' (which BJ used).

I do love this record - I find the 'sniffing'-type sound effects (think 'White Lines') particularly subversive! A genuine left-fielder and pretty funky, though I can imagine it grating on many.

SYL JOHNSON - Ms. Fine Brown Frame - 1982 - Vogue France - Another one of those great disco-funk track. This is a current favorite of mine! Super funky!

Yep - a then return to form for Syl. Originally released on Shama and then on Erect, then Boardwalk, then Epic...(!) Look out for the follow-up 12", 'Gimme Some", which is more of the same.

Sparque - Lets go dancin' - 1981 - West End
    Stone - Time - 1981 - West End
Two off the finest original elecrtofunk tracks on WestEnd!

'Time' took my head off at the 'time' - I played that record to death. Only played Sparque today - I still think it's a great record, if just a little long.

    Chalice - Funky kind'a reggea - 1984 - Ariola

Got this as a present from my brother who was in the Caribbean at the time. Again, good fun.

The Little Dabs - E.T. (every Time) - 1982 - Musicworks / BMC records This really is a strange one. An very weird electro track with vocals on top tha sound like 5 year old kids, a biit like Musical youth's pass the dutchie. I preffer the instrumental mix. I've had this. Thought it was offal!

VAN TWIST - Shaft - 1988 ? - Magic - This is a ultra rare electro mix of the famous shaft track! On white Vinyl! Van Twist is an alias for Mark Moulin a.k.a TELEX (remember moscow discow)

I wasnt keen on this, but the track on the b-side was more or less a remix of Johnny Dynell's 'Rhythm Of Love'. I used to wonder how this came about and what the connection with Dynell and Van Twist was.

Yeah it seems like every electro clash records issued those times contain samples of Bobby.

2 many Djs used "She has away" and "Passion" in their last compil too.

"Fait divers et rien de plus" also figures on "As heard on radio Soulwax" by the 2 many Djs.

And, BTW, Forrce, is there a record you DON'T have? :D

Mmmmmmm...let me see...YES, PLENTY! The first things I learned to write were record label names (true)! Since the late '70s, I've done little else but buy records. I'm drowning in 'em, but buy more every week. Waiting for the day when I lose the hunger... :D
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
