Two giants cross paths (hey, this is a QUIZ)

They both are first class disco artists and producers. They seem to be from different environments, however there's a recording which links them.

Mr. A: He's white. He plays guitar, but also other instruments. He's not American. Worked under a pseudonym sometimes. He's pretty funky.

Mr. B.: He's black. He plays guitar, but also other instruments. He's American. No pseudonyms, but his own output was under three different -albeit similar- names. He's pretty funky.

THE RECORDING LINK: They didn't play together, but it's obvious that Mr. A knows and pays hommage to the work of Mr. B. This recording was not a hit, but the album contains a well-known disco version of a soul anthem which was a great hit in 1980.

Dare to guess who are these guys, the song title, and the album that contains it? 8)

I hope there's enough clues, but not too many...

Here's some more clues, in case someone's reading this...

1) Mr. A did record a cover version of a Bill Withers song.
2) Mr. B used to be Stevie Wonder's guitar player.
3) I told you the record that contains the mystery track that links Mr. A with Mr. B also includes a hit disco version of a soul classic. Well, this song -which was a hit again in 1980 thanks to this version- was first released by Stax Records and composed by one of Stax's most known writing teams.

Need I say more?

Well, at long last there's SOMEONE answering this. And you're on the right path, Pulse. You already guessed Mr. A and Mr. B.
Now the question is: where's the recording that links Gino Soccio with Ray Parker jr.? I want the song title, who sings it and the album that contains it.
I didn't know about this fact until I checked the album myself some weeks ago. :o

It might have been your last clue that was a little confusing. I spent a lot of time looking for ONE SONG that linked these two guys instead of one album :-? . Did I get it right?

I figured "Hold On, I'm Coming" by Karen Silver after your Stax remake clue. I figured Gino Soccio cause he produced that LP...but I didn't get the Ray Parker Jr. clue. Shoulda picked up the LP I guess. :oops:

... Had put me on the wrong foot: I was looking for a Mr. A's track contaning work off Mr. B...

But Gino Soccio never had a big disco hit in 1980.. That's why I thought it was competely wrong. :)

Well... the fact is that Gino Soccio produced the entire Karen Silver's album (with John Driscoll), including the Ray Parker track. So, "Hot stuff" links the two artists, because it was written by Parker and produced (but NOT sang) by Soccio.
Yeah, I know it was a little bit tricky

but I take you're true connoiseurs... Kudos to Pulse and Nick for their work.
