    $$$ records...

i went record shopping a few days ago and I saw two records that were really expensive.... My question is how come???

The first one was Jakki - Sun, Sun, Sun (don't know if it was a 12" or LP) it sold for $105.

The second one was Volume 4 Program 4 Bonus. I wasn't sure what this one had on it when I first saw it but I found out through the net that it contains: Steve Thompson's Dance Classics Medley, and Euro Funk - It's Dynamite (Extended Remix) Mix By Valapucci. It says that the record is from '81 on the net. It sold for $75.

    Thanks!!! :D

It would be a 12", as the LP is actually under a different artist name (Johnnymelfi). This is a song you either love or hate. Regardless, it's a cult classic, and the bizarre and delightfully-badly-edited 12" version has never been reissued on any format AFAIK. It came out in '76 before the 12" format was really established, so both promo and commercial copies are quite scarce today. I paid $45 Cnd for mine about a year ago and don't regret it.

Yup, that's a bootleg. It's the kind of stuff you get at Rock and Soul.

Rock & Soul is an electronics store in mid-Manhattan that also sells vinyl. Years ago it was a very popular spot for both dj's and the general public.

That other record sounds like a Disconet mix but I'd have to check. Will get back to you.

I have written about this mix before in a thread about favorite medleys. etc.......................

    here's what I said:

I've been listening to an old tape on which I recorded the Disconet "Dance Classics compiled by Steve Thompson". This is, without a doubt, my favorite medley megamix, paying tribute to the early days of Disco.

Starts with "Let's Groove" - Archie Bell & The Drells (1975)
"Dreaming A Dream" - Crown Heights Affair (1975)
"Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel" - Tavares (1975)
"Ten Percent" - Double Exposure (1976)
"Mighty High" - Mighty Clouds Of Joy (1975)
"Down To Love Town - The Originals (1976)
"Free Man" - South Shore Commission (1975)
"Lovin' Is Really My Game" - Brainstorm (1977)

    Talk about yer "CLASSICS"!!!!!

It's all beautifully mixed up to the last song which is much faster than the preceding song...so it's just tastefully edited in.

Thompson went on to remix lotsa classics in the 1980's with a Michael Barbiero. One of my faves is Talk Talk's "It's My Life" with that exquisite breakdown.
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

All Disconets are rare, they were produced in limited quantity, and you had to be a member of a record pool or a billboard reporter to subscribe and buy one, they were not available for retail although this rules were sometimes ignored and you could find some copies in local shops. They usually sell between $40.00 and 75.00 on ebay
