At 43:43 - end on the 2nd one is a loop of the ending of "Golden Tears" by Sumeria from 1978 (one of my choice tracks I always play doing a classic underground set) ,an Alec R. Costandinos alias, in some countries this track was released under Love And Kisses. The other stuff I got no clue but its some pretty deep and awsome stuff! Been hearing all kinds of new to me underground disco from old spins over the past 24 hours..amazing!

Just to add a brief comments on this tape.

The Deephouse page is, by far, the best resource for old mixtapes. And these Discotizer tapes are probably the best oldschool mixtapes I found on the net, together with another one by John Ceglia I downloaded from a site I can't remember now (with a sublime technique!)

Other good mixtapes you can listen to at Deephouse page are those by Ron Hardy:I never heard him before and I understand why he was so respected then! Pure energy!!!
And I also understand where all the Theo Parrish ugly edits come from.........

Levan, as usual, is quite disappointing as to technique, but great as to musical choice
Timmy Regisford always plays great music!
The Deephouse page bears some rare tapes by Walter Gibbons too.
Incredibly, I did not find any place in the net where to listen to some Jellybean mixtape.....

    ... and, finally, fellows NewYorkers.....
..... WHO WAS THIS GENIUS DISCOTIZER ????

Jellybean had some awesome mixes back when WKTU (NY) played his mixes on a weekend show from 1996-1998. Unlike so many other d.j.'s, he would play a song practically in its entirety and then mix into another.

yes, ron hardy is one my favourites too, he (and other WBMX dj's) played a lot great early 80s italo-disco tracks.. there are also lots of mixes that have been puzzling me from time to time.

Can someone tell me what pages of the site stuff from 1977 - 1981 is? I only found one so far. Im not real interested in 80's, 90's or today and been lookin to download the disco spins over there. The one I did find from 81 was damn solid! :D

The mixtapes of the DeepHousePage are not in chronological order, so you have to check every single mix for author and year.

The guy obviously specialises in extending segments of the same track........quite badly!!!
Double beats, not coming in at the right place etc, etc.
Ultimately pretty boring 'cos for me he overdoes it. I don't thinks it's live 'cos it sounds like an exercise in mixing (today's philosophy?) rather than playing to a crowd.

IMO: This must be the result of someone raised on House music and not from the era.
Possible clue to identity of Discotizer: the file just says Gerard Rose (owner of the site) whereas most of the other mixes have the DJ's name in the real player box. Could it be one of his?

Yes I agree the mixing is VERY horrable on that one LOL..kinda sounded amature..but it is an old tape from 78 (ya can tell by the quality on it). Just it was a good track selection..too bad the DJ either sucked or was having a VERY bad night LOL. If this was done to a live club crowd, it was probably at a point in the night where it didnt matter and no one knew the difference cause they were all screwed up saying weeeeee look at me mommy

Quinny, what are you talking bout????
why does Discotizer have to be one raised on "house"?? extending breaks was very common in the 70´s (walter gibbons prime example) .. in a way the cutting betwwen 2 recs is the foundation to todays dance music..
as with the poor mixing.. you have NO CLUE about the contitions he was operating in.. perhabs irt was recorded in a nightclub with no monitors.. (yes monitors was not common back then)..
As with g-man why the heck would he name himself discotizer and put up a tape like that?? he already have mixes on that page under his real name..

There was tons of dj´s in the late 70´s since the disco era was a t its biggest then.. Mos prob. many could tear it like discotizer!! -learn your history..

Listen to Bobby Viteritti, Frankie Knuckles or any of the other DJ's live spins from back then..maybe once or twice you may hear a small to major **** up..everyone makes mistakes..but that was just ridiculous! Listen to the Alec R Costandinos loop at the very end of pt.2..the way it cuts in (or slams in) way off beat and then even loops way off beat. I never heard of this discotizer guy till now..sorry to sound like an ass but..LOL, it's just my oppinion..is there any other spins avalible from this guy over there? I havent found any but id gladly take a listen to another one if avalible to see if he was having a bad night or what.

Johhnyboy: We used headphones back then (or even a telephone handset ). I guess you're younger, 'cos you mention monitors. They didn't really come into their own (in the UK at least) until Rave took over the scene and everyone was playing on mega, mega watt sytems.

I know very well that some jocks extended tracks, but this is just done too much and too badly on this tape to be taken seriously. Jeez, on one part of the mix the records go out of sync and just keep on going out of sync until there's virtually a whole beat going awol. Sorry, but to my ears that just sounds plain f****d up.

So far as sound quality goes and authenticity, that's easily faked. Just record a mix onto a cassette and keep re dubbing to other decks until it sounds screwed up enough.

The reason I think it sounds like a more recent attempt at mixing is the style that's used. I can't imagine anyone would have concentrated sooooo heavily on instrumental breaks back in '79. Of course I stand to be corrected.

If it was recorded live at a club, I'm damned glad I wasn't there. I would of died of boredom.

O.K. so maybe it isn't the owner of the site who did it. Just thought it could/might be a clue (or maybe a red herring). No big deal.

as far as not having monitors, that is no excuse! Bring your own! and hook it up to the mixers extra outs, I used to bring my own mono amp with monitor to some clubs without them, and they have been available for ever!, I also spent lots of money on headsets until I found the right ones FOR ME, Fostex T20's, If you want to be a seriuos DJ and love your craft is up to you to do the homework and invest in whatever equipment you need/like to shine! is your reputation on the line, I even brought in my on tables! to some cheap clubs I did. And yes, if you have a bad night DESTROY the tape and do it again, certainly don't promote your disaster by posting it on the net

One thing I can say is that the short time I got to work in a club and through the private parties i've done, while spinning the stuff it's all a matter of headphones, thats all i've ever used. In all honesty i dont even know what these "monitors" are  ..maybe im a bit old fashon (i dont mix with CD's either) But.. When I do **** at home, for fun, business and even when I had an internet radio show myself my set up is reallll damn generic and rigged (a mic mixer converted to a DJ mixer by an old amp/recever with a bunch of wires, my regular stereo recever and one DJ turntable and a home made pitch control home turntable)...before I had the chance to do anything outside the home this is all I did and if any of you heard my home **** from then (I know Bernie & Phil Esparza has and Bernie played some on the old DGR show). Thats a real bitch to do cause I cant even really monitor with headphones cause of the rigged set up. I have to literaly put my ear to the turntables and listen for the small highs coming off of my needle and know the tracks im playing to cue em in where i wanna drop em.... So thats an example of someone with a real bad set up and making it work and most of the time it all turned out great..im not trying to brag here but just trying to make a point, if this discotizer was doing this at a club (as the site claims), there was DEFENATLY no excuse for that is my point! Espessaly in NYC! And again, if it was a bad night as stated in the post before..DESTROY THE EVIDENCE!

Dj Jimmy, in most clubs , not all, you'd need monitors because the club's system reverb can throw off your mixing, also sealed booths or far away booths of course need 'monitors', I personally always prefer 'in my face' monitors, reguardless.

My first Deejay mixer was also a 'rigged' Pioneer MIC mixer.

Some clubs had monitor speakers put into the dj booth to help the dj hear better. Why? In some halls, especially the larger ones, the delay in time from the dj's ear to the live speaker on the floor was enough to **** up the mixes. Or, some dj's actually found themselves closed off from the crowd because the owners built "walled in" booths of glass. Horrible for hearing the dance floor or feeling crowd reaction. But you had to have monitors in there to hear your mixes.

The Anvil tried monitor speakers for about a month. We dj's unanimously voted them out. I liked to mix "outloud", headset on one ear, other ear to the dancefloor :D . My friend Larry would rip the headset off once he caught the first beat in his ear and mix totally to the floor. Loved to watch him work.

  OK --- Mixmachine and I are playing tag. I guess you got it now, right Jimmy?

Oh, one more thing: Never heard of this DJ Discotizer which surprises me if he's from New York. I mean, I didn't know them all but if he had a rep somebody should know the name. About the mixes --- the way he's running those breaks would have run me and my friends off the dancefloor. Hopefully it was just an off night, if indeed it was a live set.

The one problem with this approach (For me) was that in many clubs when the floor was packed very little of the sound gets to you (not always) and after blasting your eardrums all night I needed more volume (monitors) to mix the last hours.

Yeah! It wasn't a sterling performance by a so called pro and if it was an off night then maybe he should have submitted a better tape.Frankly the mixing sucked and in a lot of clubs they would have asked for his head. Not something he should be proud about.
On another note I checked out a couple of Frankie Knuckles mixes and noticed he was quite fond of "phasing" his songs. This is a technique that I used from time to time that gives the song a rather ethereal feel but have not seen it mentioned to often on this site.Anybody else familiar with this ?

    Quinny,

In Italy in 1979 was quite common to extend the breaks and play instrumental versions only. This tendency would have become very very common in the early 80s in some areas of Italy (North East and Eastern Riviera), with a musical research of instrumental, percussive, spacey track.
This style was called then in Italy "Afro" and you could listen to dj sets of 4 to 6 hours with no singing tracks and instrumental breaks extended ad lib.....

I remember hearing a famous italian jock of the era, dj Mozart playing the instrumental break of "Love to love you baby" for all his set, mixing and dubbing over it for about 4 to 5 hours.... everybody went crazy about that trick!!!
