The original Salsoul Christmas album from 1976 is by far and away the best. Montana's later attempts were merely rehashing of his earlier efforts.
question: who had a better record for Christmas / New Years. Was it the montana orchestra or salsoul orchestra? Me personally, I am not sure because I never heard the montana record, but I plan on buying it soon. Thats why I posted this question. Thanks for reading!!! :D

Salsoul Orchestra's "Christmas Jollies" (1976) is a great album. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the CD version. For starters, the song sequence is mixed up. On the original LP version, the Christmas/New Year's Medleys were on Side 2 while the singular songs were on Side 1. On the CD version, the medleys are interspersed with the singular songs. Also, on the CD version, there is a different mix of Denise Montana's "Merry Christmas All", with a different ending, vocal-wise. There is a CD bonus track: New Year's/Americana Suite. This is the same New Year's medley without the disco beats. The vinyl LP is still the best version, for both the song sequencing and the overall feel of it.
For the record, I have not heard the Montana Orchestra version.
