    The Disco Dub band

    Hello everybody.

I've downloaded the mp3 of The O'Jays classic "for the Love of Money" revisited by The Disco Dub Band. The song is from 1976.

It's the most ahead of its time song I ever heard, it could have been issued this year, so I have a few questions to ask.

Who produced this song and what else did he produce?
    Who is the female singer?
Is the LP ( I assume there is a LP) rare? Expensive?
Do the other songs sound as recent as "For the Love of Money" do? etc etc ...

I know it's almost thirty years later, but I feel like this song could have deeply changed music, or could have at least influenced it more than it apparently had.

What do U think of this song, dear members?

I'm not sure which female vocalist you're referring to, as the versions I own don't have vocals.

The track first came out on a subsidiary of Island in the UK, in '76, though only on 45. Record Shack n London's Soho released a segue of parts 1&2 on 12" white label, in 1981, as the Master Dub Band. This maybe around the same time that Upstairs records released it in the US (unofficially?).

Apparently, the track is the work of one Davitt Siegerson (sic) who recorded for Ze, worked for and rose high up in Island Records - and later ran EMI America. This is what my own research has revealed, but I've yet to have it confirmed.

As for being ahead of its time, Barry Waite's 'Sting' on Leo predates that 'disco' drums/flying hi-hat/wah-wah and (marginal) dub theme by a whole 2 years.

    Thanks for the info Forrce.

Indeed the Barry Waite and Ltd's song has some kind of dub sound, but when you hear it there is no way you can believe it could have been released recently.

With "For the Love of Money", if you don't know the song, you could easily think it's a 2003 track.

Do you know if this LP is rare and expensive, or easy to find?

There is no known LP. The original 12" release mentioned is pretty scarce, especially as it was only ever a white label. I recently sent one to a collector in the US for trade, who has pledged a $300 package in return.
