Best From Artist 67 - ABBA

Yeah, that's right. NIcky, Marky, you asked for it
I really wanted to make Waterloo my pick but I just can't get pass Dancing Queen. I know it's more pop oriented but I love it 8)

    Paul: Geez, you're up late.

As for ABBA - they never belonged in a disco. I played Dancing Queen for about 2 weeks, until I came to my senses. Then I never played 'em again, even though I had Swedish babes promising certain delights, for a spin.
My wife (who is pretty much non-commital about any music) gestures throwing up whenever she hears any of their toons.

I didn't like Abba then and still don't like them now, but I like at least 3 of their songs I can remember:

1 - WATCH OUT - a rock song over a disco beat which played at TROPICANA disco here in Rio around 1977
2- FERNANDO - the song (a ballad) that broke Abba here around 1975/76
    3 - DANCING QUEEN - popdisco

The only song by Abba I've ever enjoyed is "The day Before You Came". It's very different from what else they did - that must be why I like it.
    There was life after disco!!

I think ABBA is considered disco by a lot of people, even it was really pop oriented.

    ABBA top 3:
1)Lay all your love on me (disconet remix)
    2)Fernando
    3)Gimme Gimme Gimme
    I\'m a Victim ( of th very Song I sing )

I freely admit that I really like Abba. Always have since a kid. My faves are:

    1. Lay All Your Love (Disconet Remix)
    2. The Winner Takes It All
    3. Dancing Queen
    4. Voulez Vous

Ah Tall Paul...you're a man of your promise...

"LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME" (Disconet Remix)--in my Top 10 of all time!!!!

"THE VISITORS" (Hot Tracks Remix)--tricky slow beginning for djs--but then pure paranoia dance delight!!!

"GIMME! GIMME! GIMME! A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT" -
(nicely remade by gay, gay, gay group Erasure without changing gender)

    "VOULEZ-VOUS" (a-ha!!!)

"DANCING QUEEN" (Tom Moulton turned down the chance to remix this--he said it was perfect as is--he now lists that decison as one of his greatest regrets!!!)

"SUMMER NIGHT CITY" - (never heard this in clubs--but it's got sweep & style)

You have to watch Looney Toons cartoons to get it :-) Pretty sure it was a Bugs Bunny episodewhere a little French guy runs around yelling, "But I am Napolean!" Got to watch it.

??? I thought only one of them was gay...

I've never really cared for ABBA, so I'll throw everyone for a loop and say that my fave ABBA-related track is Agnetha Fältskog's "Wrap Your Arms Around Me".

Many thanks to NickNack for introducing me to this lovely song.

Well, I'll use Marky's list, just drop off "Dancin Queen" (never played it :P ) and "Summer Night City" (never heard it). Like Graham, Agnetha's solo effort is my fave: "Wrap Your Legs ( Arms) Around Me". :D

    Hi Paul :P

    My choices are:

    Dancing Queen
    Winner Takes It All
    Fernando

I didn't like "DQ" in the beginning but it eventually grew on me.

I shoulda added "The Day Before You Came" to my list also. Such a smooth morning song even with the stilted lyrics..."there's not a single episode of "Dallas" I think, that I've never seen"!!!!

And of course the Agnetha solo..."Wrap Your Arms Around Me".... :D

Frida's solo "There's Something Going On" was a nice one too. Is that heresy to admit I like her LP produced by the EVIL MONEY-GRUBBING PHIL COLLINS???? (I had no idea the Brits here hated PC so much!!!)

Those girls (Agneta & Frida) had such a beautiful blend of voices...it was MAGICAL when they sang together.
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

I don't consider Abba disco, and I think it's a shame that their reputation has been reduced to "retro" status, but I think they made some great music throughout their run. Here are some Abba faves of mine:

    WATERLOO
    SOS
    MAMMA MIA
    SO LONG
    HONEY HONEY
    FERNANDO
    DANCING QUEEN
    KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU
    THE NAME OF THE GAME
    TAKE A CHANCE ON ME
    DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW
    THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL
