Thanks for sharing that Quinny. I will try and give it a listen.
BTW, I like the praise they give Disco on the page. As for their top 20 list well......
BBC Radio 2 from last week for 6 weeks, Norman Jay presents Good Times, The Disco Story. This week it's mostly Philly and its influence with lotsa top Philly Disco sounds and informative soundbites from people who were there.

Find them and destroy them!
Its a very enjoyable series. From this week's show I recognised Soul Makossa, Never Can Say Goodbye, Love Train, The Love I Lost, Love is The Message, TSOP & the generally Philly-type stuff but I didn't recognise the funkier Gallery stuff. Can anyone enlighten me about these tracks please? (I'm a bit sketchy with pre-'75 stuff)
...ya gotta beat the street......
Paul: As I've explained before, Radio 2 is the Beeb's MOR radio station, but at least they have some good specialist shows from time to time. Did you notice Kylie, Pet Shop Boys, Soul Solutions etc. They cater for a very wide spectrum of tastes. The sort of radio station you'd love to have more of in the U.S.?
Hmm. I'm having a problem using my real player at work. I'll have to give it a shot at home.
Hey Quinny, what's a MOR radio station?
By the way you're right, I wouldn't mind seeing more radio formats like that in the states 8)
Find them and destroy them!
Paul: MOR = Middle Of The Road i.e. appealing to a wide age range (but mostly mature people) and wide tastes, but commercial in content. 20 years ago this would have meant the sort of records that would have been aimed exclusively at our parents.
How things have changed, MOR (at the Beeb) now encompasses anything from Led Zeppelin to Big Bands to Folk through Jazz and Hot (Kylie) Mommas.
A friend of mine was involved in producing it.
He listed the tracks played here, if you want to check it out:
Tracklisting
ladyboygrimsby: That isn't the complete songlist for part 2. What's the early '70s disco-soul song by a female group that we hear in part 2 where the lyrics read "Forbidden fruit, that's what we ate... Tragic story... We're out of touch... We're running out of time. Warning, the writing's on the wall, babe... a prophecy about you and me... See the writing on the wall, babe..." I don't think I've heard this one before. Part 2 is magnificent altogether.
1. Do I need RealPlayer to hear this?
2. Steely --- What show was The Gallery music from --- 1 or 2? Can I still hear it if I reinstall Real?
3. Ladyboygrimsby --- love that playlist: Bonnie Bramlett, "Evil" by E,W&F. That's my stuff! :D The Brian Auger & Trinity track, "Listen Here"... Is this a cover of Eddie Harris?
Margie Joseph - ProphecyOriginally Written by discosavvy
NickNack: So far as I'm aware you don't need a real player, the Beeb seem to have their own way of doing this.
BTW: The tracklisting with Brian Auger etc (surely you're not into Eddie Harris? :o ) was from the first show, which is no longer available to listen to.
From my own perspective the soundbites are really interesting and authoritative.

Nicknack,
just go to the link... and you should be able to hear it.... with no problem.
by the way.... i'm hoping someone will come up with those track listing.. on show #2 ... I don't recognize them. :(
Quinny,
Thanks for the tracklisting. Was trying to figure out "Yellow Sunshine" and now you've just confirmed that I've had it all along on the Danny Krivit Grass Roots CD

Thanks. I went to the link yesterday but nothing happened which is why I thought I might need Real. I'll try again.Originally Written by QUINNY
As for Eddie Harris  ... Hey, I'm cool 8) --- I bought The Best of Eddie Harris when I was 14 or 15 for one track only: "Listen Here". When I read your post I went to pull it off the shelf. It's gone :( . I guess I have to start blaming myself for all the missing vinyl I'm discovering years after the fact. Too many moves with shady moving men; my Mom's useless, con artist last husband; free lending 'cause I was too trusting. Whatever, I'm paying for it now. The missing Eddie Harris hurts. I used to put it on and wonder what did I hear when I was kid that made me buy this piece of jazz before I even knew what jazz was all about.
Nicky,
Yes, you will need to have RealPlayer installed on your box. The program loads using the Real plugin. Go to the Real site and dl the "Free" player.

Is that Margie joseph track 'Prophecy' available on CD at all does anyone know? It sounds brilliant & I love her 80's stuff so would like to hear more of her earlier stuff.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Don't miss this week's instalment. The majority of the show assesses Salsoul's rise to prominence, Tom Moulton's accidental invention of the 12" single, and Vince Montana talking about techniques in assembling and recording the orchestra. Great stuff!
hi Steely, you'll find Margie's brilliant 'Prophesy' and many other gems on the 2cd Danny Krivit 'Grass Roots' compilation released by Strut in 2001.
OK, I've had no luck getting music at home so I'll try again. Friggin' AOL, I think they're trying to get me to switch (and pay big $s) to broadband.
