I know some people around this place will probably kill me for saying this....but I'll have to say: Giorgio Moroder
I really never understood what all the fuzz was about with that guy. :-?
i know what to look for when i go record shopping.but sometimes when shopping in stores where you can't listen to records before you buy them.what tracks, producers remixers, singers to avoid when shopping.example

DISCO
The word evokes not just a type of music or a kind of dance or even a style of dress.It\'s also a new social order of black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, all hot, sweaty and, most likely, high, together.
I know some people around this place will probably kill me for saying this....but I'll have to say: Giorgio Moroder

"C'mon, let's do the Cocomotion"
Cheez whiz on a stick!!!!!! :P
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Anything produced by, or involving, Joel Diamond.
"Makin' It" by David Naughton is real Land O' Lakes pasteurized cheese product. :P
Also, The Sylvers seemed to specialize in dairy food.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Anything by Ottowan is best avoided. It so pisses me off when I tell people that I like disco music & they immediately start singing 'D I S C O' by ottowan  - it has to be the worst disco record ever made IMO.
...ya gotta beat the street......
"Hands Up" by ??? I'm guessing it's either Arpeggio or Lime.
Another big warning sign are disco songs/albums by artists who don't normally do disco (Ethel Merman, Ferrante & Teicher, etc.).
These will send anyone with lactose intolerance running to the washroom.
I agree, In some clubs I had no choice but to play "Makin it" but usually I took my sweet time until they forked over some dough.Originally Written by markydefad
Expose's style fell out of favor overnight, they even caned a similar follow up LP ready for release, but they were very popular at the time, and their music packed the floors (even in California, I was there), it was also a hell of a great effort by a former local DJ (Luis Martinez), at least he didn't go around sampling other's music.
Major cheese in my book:
"The Love boat" ?
"All Night long" Lionel Ritchie
" What a fool believes" Ralph MacDonals
"Jive turkey" BeeGees
and many others...
personally when I go record shopping I always stick to the labels I know. Anything that is on a commercialized stand out in disco I refuse to buy. Like Gloria Gaynor - I will serve or Y.MC.A. However I personally like to hear everything so I pick up what I can and I make my own judgements because what some people will like, others won't.
"I Will Survive" and "YMCA" are the cheese on the trays at your local wedding reception and block party  . I will also throw in Alicia Bridges' "I Love The Nightlife", but the 12" version is much better. Can't forget Sister Sledge's "He's The Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family". At this point I should just say that any disco song that made the Top 10 is cheese.
Boogie Oogie Oogie -- the very name smacks of aerosol fromage
I will put on my flame-retardant clothing and say that most of Madonna's 80s material is pure cheese. I still cringe when I hear "Holiday", "Material Girl", or "Lucky Star". Hear "Holiday" at a retro night a few weeks ago, and realized that I've been completely sick of the song for 20 years now.
If we took a holiday, just one day out of life, it would be soooo niiiiice!!!!" :P
I LOVE this record. The extended promo was real good --sensational piano. Have you heard this version--not just the 45 version???? :o
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
AAARRRRGHGH... I have been subjected to that wretched number far more times than I can imagine. A longer version than the usual club mix? Spare me from the very thought! The production is cheese. The lyrics are cheese. The melody is cheese. And that voice!! Egad, Madonna has never been known as a great singer, but she sounds like a seal with a sinus cold on this one!
All this is still not as bad as the Tommy Musto remix of "Unison" by Celine Dion; which now that I think of it, wins the award for cheesiest dance tune I have ever had to repeatedly endure. Mercifully, it doesn't get played at retro nights. (goes and knocks on wood)
Madonna - Holiday was sooooo refreshing at the time. I even liked the later version by DJ Sven & Miker G (is that right?) which camped it up somewhat, but worked really well and had a certain Nordic charm.
So far as cheese is concerned..............
put Alec R, Boris Midney and all the other Eurotrash into the grater please. I would never want to buy anything by those guys, although I do now own a few more because compilations aren't so selective.
Not forgetting the let's jump on the disco bandwagon tunes like I Love Lucy et al. You know the ones I mean. Ghastly, ghastly records!!!!!
K-Bee!!!!!!!!!! My partner in remixing and fellow Taylor George fan..how can you say Giorgio sucked????? I will agree that some of his Donna Summer stuff was absolutly horrable! But stuff like "From Here To Eternity" (the entire suite) and some others was the begining of the electronic house music sound. Give it another listen my friend. As for **** to look out for..one thing I found was this label called Panarama or some **** (not the black Front Page "Love Insurance" label), but some brownish/blue label I came across while being able to test out records before I buy at this one store in Phoenix. These things came out from 1978 - 1980 and every single artist's 12" I took a listen to was absolulty horable ****! Cant explain..it was just..ummm..scary & bad LOL..so look out for those!

Giorgio was black music's anti-christ. It was he who mechanised drums and rhythms and aimed his music at the Disco dance floors. If you feel that Disco was all about strings, real musicians and real music etc (which I have the strong impression you do), how could you like Mr. Moroder (or any of the Euro thump thump thump stuff)?
I see a definite problem with his stuff and liking black music, and Disco was first and foremost a continuation of various black music forms originally.
Well..LOL, I dont call disco "Black" music. There are many forms of disco. Yes by all means disco began as a more funky offspring of R&B/Soul. However, the stuff I think you prefer as disco is more soul music. I call it disco roots. As 1977 came in, it evolved into (in the non mainstream) what is still alive and running today in some underground dance music. Theres nothing wrong with electronics. But hey, you like your disco roots and soulful disco and I like it all.."To Each His Own" as the great Faith Hope & Charity track said. It's really all the same if you really listen in on it, just done with different styles..example, You can easily mix into "I Always Love My Mama" from "Utopia" by Giorgio..i've done it

In The Roquefort class I'd list:
Disco Duck - Rick Dees
Get Dancin- Disco Tex and The Sex-O-Lettes
Shame,Shame Shame - Shirley and Co.
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush
Im soooo glad someone else other than myself sees that Disco Tex piece o' **** as exactly that ! :D That's probably my most hated disco track of all time! (minus some of the pop stuff).

May I ask, DJ Jimmy M and originalbigm:Originally Written by DJ Jimmy M
Were either of you around when it came out or do you just hate what you're hearing? I'm asking because I normally don't care for songs like this either, but being around when it hit makes a big difference. The memories are fun. People laughing, queens imitating Ms. Tex when he says, "No one cares how you wear you hair, daahling." ( and snap fingers here! :D ) It was just a piece of stupid fun on the dancefloor... and somewhat danceable.
No I was not around when it came out..however I experienced everything as if I was with the 8th Floor disco in Philly (all the old heads there back when told me that I was lucky as hell cause its exactly how it was and no other club literaly was a true time machine..damn i was lucky wasnt I  ). So I basicly lived the disco era but just at a later point in time (early 90s). Yea I remember that being played alot on the dancefloor..it was a fun song in the club, I agree! But talking musical aspects..its just the one disco track I hate most since im not dancing in the club no more LOL. It does have its fun memories..but do does Rick Dees "Dr. Disco" but that aint a good track either other than fun memories..think ya know what I mean now with my responce :D

Disco Tex/Sex-o-lettes - Get Dancin' although IS considered cheese now... wasn't back in the day....
hitting #10 on the pop charts... most of this thread is basing your opinion on 2003... am I correct? I mean the song is "alright" until Monty opens his mouth???
I guess for me... the song was a {novelty} hit. And I'm not going out of my way to play it....
Well..good old Monty was acting like a major jack off in that LOL (but he kinda was anyhow in my opinion)..but fun track for the memories sake but still..the worst of all time in my book aside from "Boogie Oogie Oogie" and "Ring My Bell"
